I saw several threads about this last week and we have been talking about this behind the scenes (nobody was being ignored, I just wanted to have some answers or suggestions before we addressed this) and it is a holiday weekend and the IT guy is out of town on vacation, so there is also some delay with that.
However…some of you have been here since the ownership of the forum has changed and will remember that we requested that everything stay the same as it was, and it did...
But basically, to address some of the questions and comments about things being stagnant and outdated.. it is because we didn't want anything to change at the time and we did not want the rotating commercial advertisements that rotated throughout the other forums that they own we asked the new owners to keep us off the "grid", so to speak
, and they did. we also addressed updating the forum with the new software and we were mostly against that as well (there were more 'no's' than there were 'yes's' during those discussions. They were gracious in accommodating our wishes, so we used what we had at the time (the calendar ad ) we also have the 'no puppy mill' ad sin rotation.
Ideally, we were hoping that each year we could replace it with the upcoming year's calendar advertisement, but it seems like nobody wants to volunteer to do one, which is fine..but, alas, we are now stumped on what to put in it's place. I have put out feelers periodically and posted a few times for any volunteers and so far, no takers..
As a community, we can decide if we would like to be placed back on the rotating ads (which would be new things every day, commercial advertisements that you'd see on many other forums) Perhaps it is time to re-evaluate this and have rotating ads, and be placed back on the commercial advertising grid. Is this what the community wants?
We can also talk about if we want changes..changes in color, software options, etc. etc. I will ask Yung to look into our options if this is what we want to do as a community.
We are open to any suggestions on what to put in it's place, someone can put together a calendar committee (I do not have time to do this, but I will contribute financially, as I am sure some others would be willing to help financially with printing costs, if everyone sent in $10-50, there is no doubt we could raise the $500 or so to make one and sell them to raise money for rescue) But someone would have to put the time, talent and effort into designing it and organizing the printing and shipping..which is a fair amount of work, no doubt..
OR we can ask to be plugged back into the rotating advertisements that change every day..
OR..we can think of something else to put there. Does anyone have an idea for something to take it's place?
As for the new forum on older havs, a request has been put in to create one and I'm sure it will be taken care of when the IT person is back from vacay..
The banner was very complicated to make because we are using older software and again, off the main grid and different software version, as per our requests at the time, and not all pictures can be used because of backgrounds and sizing, etc.. so even if we vote on a picture, that particular picture may or may not work due to other factors..(it had to broken into 3 separate images and put together, a little complicated to explain..) but Geri is getting the dimensions and specs again and we are going to work on some new ones.. and our idea is to create 3 or 4 that can be changed throughout the year, so that is also being addressed as per your requests.
Sorry this post is a little ADD, I've been interrupted about 12 times while trying to type it, lol..I may have to come back and edit it better later when the world around me quiets down..so sorry for any redundancies.
