Feel outnumbered but I don't mind

I realize that more women are interested in havanese than men. However from what I see and read they are an awesome dog for anyone. As a retired male I'm getting one---so there! lol. They are the perfect size for me as a person "over 55" who wants a dog to take everywhere. The temperament is what appealed to me most, and as far as socialization and training I have no problem with that and lots of free time. The only problem I may have is so much grooming but I will work that out. I have a great breeder working on the puppy for me now (not born yet) and I will get him later this summer. Just found this forum and its a great help and will continue to be as the time gets closer. Thanks.

Welcome. There are quite a few men on here but yes we females do outnumber you on here. A new puppy how exciting. The wait is always the hardest part. They're so worth the wait though.

Mike!

Outnumbered but still appreciated. Congratulations on finding the Hav and excited for you to have found a breeder. If your only concern is the grooming - this will all be a breeze because there's always the puppy cut. Welcome to the forum. Looking forward to hearing more about you and your soon-to-be pup.

You should check out the photo thread about men and their havanese. I know I have several pics of my husband and Linus (our Hav) together. Linus is an equal opportunity Hav--he'll play with and give ear lickies (you'll find out) to males or females.

My husband and two sons ADORE our hav Jackson. My 23 year old dogsits for us all the time, and says Jackson is a "babe magnet!" LOL

You will love the temperament . . . and the grooming can be solved by keeping a shorter coat if you don't want to deal with all that brushing. The plusses totally outweigh any "high maintenance." Can't wait to see what you get! You've come to the right place for any help you need.

You are going to love a Hav. We have always had dogs..my dogs..until Cicero moved in and he is DH's dog. They stick together like glue. Havs are so sweet and smart and funny -- you are in for a great ride!!

Hi Mike and welcome. If it helps any, I think it was GQ that said men looked good with a hav
My husband adores our dogs but men don't seem to be as chatty as women. Gee, can't imagine why

Welcome, Mike! My 21 year old son wasn't a doggy person--but he told me someday he'd like to get a Hav, because Tucker is such a great dog!

You'll get lots of info here, good answers (often from varying viewpoints, ha!) And, we LOVE pictures, so please be sure you've got a camera when the little one arrives!

Welcome, Mikeb! We can't wait to see photos of your new puppy! Good for you on deciding on a Hav - they are just totally awesome.

And the few men on here have really made their mark! Ha ha, no pun intended.

And no offense, Ryan, Daniel, and Joe!
