I have a little sideline hobby business selling my handmade jewelry, and right now I've just got it in a few galleries and shops, and also sell on Etsy, no free standing website yet. I may start a blog when I get my puppy and incorporate some stuff about the jewelry. I have a fine art degree, but ended up doing medical transcription for a living (don't ask me how that happened), so right now it's just a spare-time thing.
I don't want to obnoxiously promote because I didn't join this forum hoping to get business, plus I'm bashful and my own worst critic, but I keep getting advice to put myself out there more.
I'm wondering if it's OK to use a link to my Etsy shop in my signature line or whatever in case anyone is curious. I figure it can't hurt, unless it's not kosher or anyone objects. I saw something in the user profile page where you can add a website link, but not sure what the rules and etiquette are about links to e-commerce sites, and I don't want people thinking that's why I'm here.
Actually when the next rescue auction fundraiser comes up, I want to donate some jewelry if it doesn't have to be hav-oriented.
Thanks, Amanda. I can't seem to find the rules and guidelines to check whether there is anything official about it - I don't want to get booted off. It's no big deal, really, I just thought I should make more of an effort to be "visible," since on the big wide web, you never know who's looking.
I certainly have no problem with your including it in your signature line, either. I'm with Amanda on that...no one has to go there that isn't interested. I actually think that is a nice way to let people know about special interests without actually "selling" a product or idea.
There really isn't a rule against that kind of thing, I'm sure. I've seen many members who include a link under their signature. Sometimes, it's a link to their blogs, or websites, or favorite causes...... so go right ahead and include it!
Melissa just doesn't want outright ads about having pups for sale, that kind of thing.
Oh... and check this thread out and please post something there, o.k.? It's where many members have posted pics and stories of some of their other talents, besides being Hav-addicts.
thanks you guys, I'll try to add the link. I'm not great at this stuff, it's a miracle I figured out how to use Etsy.
Lina, I LOOOOVVVVEEE your knitting!!! To die for. Do you sell what you make? I wish I had time to learn to knit. I crocheted when I was a kid and tried to learn to knit, but at the time couldn't get the hang of it. I remember my friend's mom trying to teach me and crying when I kept messing up. Geez, what a weenie. lol!
Gah, can't figure out how to get the link in there....what am I missing? I did "insert link" in the text box where I originally had (and put back) my name, Diane, but when I saved it and went to check how it looked, it showed it like HTML with those funny parentheses. I know, I'm a computer dufus, it's a glorified typewriter for me, really....
Laurie also started a thread looking for donations for Havanese Rescue and Havanese Club of America if you did want to donate something to be auctioned or raffled off at the National that would be great. You can find all the info and how to get in touch with Laurie here: http://havaneseforum.com/showthread.php?t=7946
