70 Dogs Airlifted to Connecticut

http://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/l...New-Homes.html

This morning 70 homeless dogs arrived in Connecticut from Puerto Rico. These are dogs that were just wandering on the beaches and the streets. There will be a huge adoption site organized for them this weekend at PETCO in Stamford, CT.

wow that's crazy.

i'm glad they are being helped, but i am a bit bewildered sometimes why we don't do the same thing for humans....sorry to be a "debbie downer" but i just listened to a really sad program on a woman who survived a massacre in congo and who just lost her last child to cholera. she asked the woman reporting why no one cared.

Amy, I have to agree. People are far more valuable than dogs.

I've also wondered.... we have so many dogs here in America that need help, why go to another country to bring in theirs?

Puerto Rico isn't another country - it's a territory of the United States.

Okay, then, flying them in from somewhere other than one of the states.

I still think every area has enough dogs to be helping already. But, especially, people need help.

Being in a "people" profession, I, of course, agree that people worldwide should and need to be helped. I just thought that in these days of depressing news it was nice to hear of vets who were using their own resources to help these needy canines.

You know, I've asked myself this same question, Amy. Why do I care so much about homeless, abused, abandoned and killed animals, esp. dogs and cats? Why will I get up at the crack of dawn and trudge through rush-hour traffic (which I never do!) to muck out poop-filled cages and dogs when there is a shelter full of seized dogs from a mill? I get very passionate and on my soap box about pet shops, puppy mills, etc.... but I don't take the same action for other situations, those concerning humans. And there are plenty of those!

I sometimes feel guilty for not doing more for "worthier" causes, but then... it's not in me I guess, it's not what makes my blood boil and stirs me to action.

I have realized that we all need to feel passion for something, some cause, some greater good and I suppose there have to be people that are willing to do anything for all the causes out there, be it to 'save the caterpillars' or the beluga whales, the women of the Congo, the medicare system, the child workers in China, or teen pregnancy, etc......... I dunno, I agree with asking the question. I think it's important to ask it. But I also think that it just takes all kinds of people to make this world a better place. ...... and we've still got a long way to go.

marj, you're right. i didn't mean to come off like i was judging the validity of this effort. being a vegetarian, which i don't like to openly boost about online or in person because again i don't want to come off like i am judging you because of the choices you make, i do obviously think that we should do our best to respect every living creature on this earth which we are sharing this existence with.

i applaud all you do marj. i know i couldn't do it at this point in my life.

i guess we all just do the best we can to be the best person we can be. it was a really sad story and it hit me hard because i do think that africa is an easy continent for most of us to ignore, maybe because it's just too overwhelming. then again, am i doing the same thing when it comes to animals?

sorry again if i caused any unnecessary angst.

Oh gosh, Amy, you certainly didn't cause me any angst! LOL No, no, no worries, sweetie. I love thought-provoking discussions.

I think that because this was something that I'd also asked myself several times and still feel some guilt about ... I just wanted to 'write out loud' my own thoughts and see if maybe I could sort out my own feelings about it.

Sometimes I think "Why isn't this or that person just as appalled or passionate about this or that cause, as I am?" and then realize that it's not possible for all of us to fight for the same causes and sad to say, there are just too many causes that are 'worthy' of our attention.

I tend to get preachy, so please know that I only meant to rant a little for my own sake. lol You made a very good point as did Joyce.
