Before you go to a dog park

a good article . Do not try one out unless you are prepared. It can truly be what the title says. Good bad or ugly. http://www.4pawsu.com/Dog%20Parks.pdf

Thanks for sharing... my vet cautioned me against taking Mimi to a dog park. I talked to a few friends and took all opinions into consideration. I have only taken her twice and did not like it. So I now take her to a regular park or we just have our backyard and neighborhood.

Anyone in Dallas going to check out the new INDOOR dog park? I'm on the fence about it.

I miss our weekly all havanese play dates...

There was a group of us that met weekly for training in Orange County in Sue Nelson's backyard. They had a blast.

Riki sometimes likes the dog park when there are only a few dogs, and ones he knows. Daisy has never liked it except when mine are the only two.

This is pretty informative about reading dog language. Wish I had known this before. And where we live where it hardly rains, the scent of that place can be outrageous.

I didn't just get havanese, I got a lifestyle!

Thanks Dave, I've had very mixed feelings about the dog park. In some ways it's been great for both of my dogs - Cody, who is naive and over-exuberant, is having to learn some manners and Tess, who is very skittish is gaining some confidence.

Linda - We do have rain (and snow) and right now the dog park is an acre of mud - that smells absolutely horrendous! I give full baths when we get home - to all three of us!

Good article. We're staying away for now, as Marble barks and lunges at other dogs. Until he gets help from the trainer at a group obedience class, I'm keeping him away from other dogs.

We haven't been to a park either, I looked them up online and the closest one had very bad comments so I was afraid to go with Scooter being so small. We're happy here playing in our fenced yard and he now has a friend, she's a Maltese, and they're hysterical to watch playing. I guess we'll stay home!

Dave,
Thank you for sharing that information. In my area they are really trying to get the dogs parks built and encouraging people to bring their dogs. I went to check them out and my gut said this is not for us. I wrote to the president of the organization and said I could not support the dog parks as long as they did not have a large dog area and a small dog area.

I do not have any experience with dog parks so hate to speak out of tune. I have never been a fan of them and wasn't on my list of things I wanted to do with my dogs. The only things I have heard, were traggic. Enough to turn me away.
