I keep thinking I'm seeing them all over the place lately. When I stop to ask, I'm usually told some sort of Lhasa mix. You'd think I'd be better at identifying them now, as many pictures as I've looked at. I will have to keep in mind the higher rump thing and their gait. There's such a variation too in size, coat type and head shape, it's hard to tell sometimes.

Shih Tzu. Unless you're in NYC like me where everyone knows what they are!

Since Cody & Tess are white (or almost in Tess' case) most people think they're Maltese. When I say Tess is a Havanese, many think she's a Maltese mix. I'm meeting more & more people who know the breed. Cody on the other hand is a whole other story - when I say Coton de Tulear ---- they look at me as if I'm speaking a foreign language.

They will think he/she is a great conversation starter!! We have lived in this neighborhood for 5 years and have met more neighbors in this past 9-1/2 months that we've had Daisy. I tease my husband about Daisy being the ultimate "chick magnet" as all the women in the neighborhood just love her! two of them are trying to talk their husbands into a 2nd dog.

Seriously - most people think she is a Shih Tzu or a mix. I was the first to bring one into our vet - but they now have 5-6 coming to their practice.

Their darling personality wins so may people over. My husband always thought he wanted another big dog...now he wants to add another havie!

I've had 3 people proudly say, that's a shih tzu, isn't it?! I tell them, no, he's a havanese. They look a little surprised, and say "oh...that would be a mix of pekinese and what?"

3 different people! I think its because of all the "designer" dogs.

My dh feels the same way! It's so surprising how much he loves this dog (and is so proud to tell people all about the breed.) People stop me all the time to ask what kind of dog he is, if he ever barks, is he always so sweet... etc. etc. It's so funny---and of course, I always get the "Hava-what?" Response

BTW, I figured out how to add a picture to my profile, but it doesn't show up when I post a reply? Any hints? Thanks,
Joanne
