Out of town company who are not dog lovers

Be thinking of us tomorrow. My brother, out of state, will be visiting on his way home from Florida. He is not by any means an animal lover !!! I forewarned him my day revolves around the pups....they get under foot, they bark, they require much attention and in the middle of a meaningful conversation, I may have to swoop one up for an emergency potty call. I can't tuck them away in a closet so they don't bother him. I was giving him the "out" if he chose. He chose to come !!! Needless to say, we will have dinner out at a resturant. Cook, entertain !!! Yikes. Wish me luck.

Sharlene, good luck. My DB and SIL aren't animal lovers either. But as long as I don't visit them with Pablo they're fine. They don't mind visiting me, I just give my DB a can filled with coins and tell him to gently shake it if Pablo gets near, as my DB's mouth tends to freeze when Pablo comes close, LOL.

The stone cold hearts of some people! So sorry, Sharlene . . . best of luck . . . and maybe a good bottle of wine will help!

One of my dear friends came over right after we got Jackson (now you realize he was still a cute little ball of fluff), and she actually told me he needed training when he jumped up to greet her, tail wagging, etc. I think he was all of 4 or 5 months. She never once looked at him or touched him. She finally told me she was a "cat" person rather than a "dog" person. I don't get it!!! He almost looked like a cat at that point. But I guess it immediately taught me that's one of the many reasons we need to teach Stay and Down.

Believe it or not, I have lunch made already (while pups are quiet). This is going to be fun !!! Evye knows sit, down and stay but come to company it goes to h.....ll. Fortunately most of my company are animal lovers...so this will be a new experience.

Well, in my DB's defense, he's just never liked animals (he doesn't hate them, he's just not interested) AND he got attacked by a Rottweiler in the middle of the night. So that's it for that. However, he likes Pablo (from afar) and will ask me to make him do tricks, LOL.

Some people don't like animals, some people are terrified of dogs, and some people totally dislike kids. It is up to them to realize this is your family and your home, however, I think it is nice that you allow them to visit you and keep their fears/irritations to a minimum and maybe they will learn to love your whole family in time.

It sounds like you are handling things well by preparing in advance and scheduling dinner out tomorrow. Enjoy your visit with your brother.

Hang in there Sharlene! I am going to have to break my daughter and son into letting me visit with Dexter. They both have cats, so it is not like they do not have animals in the home.

Hopefully your family will see the joy that your pups have given you and to see how lovable Havs are. Tell Evye and Bentley to be on their best behavior! And.............keep those pups exercised and tired out!

Oy vey, I understand. It is so hard to keep our friendly, lovable havs from bothering guests. Mine just love everyone and don't understand why everyone doesn't love them. (Actually, neither do I, lol).

It sounds like you've planned ahead and have everything under control. Let us know how it turns out and good luck.

Good luck, Sharlene. I know it isn't easy hosting folks who aren't pet people. There are a couple of kids that have been to sleepovers at my house, and I have to keep the dogs in an ex-pen because they are afraid of them.

It's kind of annoying, frankly. I guess I'm just thinking that all kids should be like my kids and want to play with the animals.

Enjoy your time with your brother

My sister doesn't like animals, she was bitten in the face by a dog when we were young and has never cared for any animal since then. At first she referred to Scooter as "that animal" but now she loves him! She still says that sometimes but tells me to bring him when we're coming over or when she calls she asks all about him. It just took a little while. I'd never try to force him on anyone though.

When we were at the beach and he was only 4 months old I got into the elevator and a woman started to get on but when she saw him she stopped and said, "Are you going to put that dog down? I don't like dogs." I told her I'd hold him or that I would get off and wait for the next elevator but she said she'd be ok if I held him. She said she didn't like dogs because she'd been attacked years earlier. I turned him away from her, his tail was wagging like crazy. I felt badly for her because she was so afraid but I'd never push it.

Serve mimosas at 9am, they'll think it's a treat and you're a great hostess!!!
