Cooling Items for black dogs

Dash is mainly black where the sun hits him and he gets a lot warmer than the girls when just laying outside. He usually can be found standing behind a big dog in the shade waiting for his turn for agility as well. I bought him a cooling bed last week and have been leaving it on the couch for him to get used to. However, Dora has decided it is her water bed and Dash really doesnt like it. I have been looking at a few options for cooling coats as well. Not just agility but for this summer walks. Dash isn't very fond of the cooling bed thus far so I would like some advice. Not sure if it is too cold on him or just not what he is used to and may take awhile. Does anyone use any of these products and even if it isn't on your hav, have any other recommendations.

I have seen this type of material over crates outdoors to cool them.

Here is a horse product my SIL said she has used on horses with some sucess but she usually wets it. I am thinking Dash will not like a wet coat on him.

Those look really neat, Amanda, but I have to wonder how they work on dogs with long fur. Jackson gets really hot, too, and he is mostly white. I always figured the fur insulated them from the heat, but now I'm beginning to think the fur traps heat. Maybe one of those hand held misting fans would help too. UGA, the Georgia bulldog mascot, sits on a pile of ice cubes in a little portable doghouse during the hot football games!

And strangely, my chocolate and black lab always would lie out flat in the grass in 90+ heat in the middle of summer taking a sun bath! Go figure . . .

Some good expert advice is needed here!

Amanda I have seen the second one on a havanese at an agility trial. It is very light even when wet and I didnt notice the dog to be that wet at all either when they took it off.

Dasher just needs his own tent to hang out in like Riley & Monte.

Amanda~ Tori loves the cool pad I got from Karen. Another site that carries these and cooling vests for working dogs is 50degree.com

ironically, it is jasper who hates the heat more than cash. I tried the cooling beds last year...and they were quickly chewed not layed on.

I am not sure, but I just think clothing/any clothing would make Dash hotter.

we had some cooling bandanas last year. they seemed to work a bit. you also had to wet them.

Those bandanas are so cute . . . so you think they really work? It says they keep cooling all day (might be a cute Easter present )

Riley and Monte are looking so relaxed in the tent! What cuties!

Brody gets overheated very easily, and although I love his full coat, I've been trying to prepare myself for a short trim this summer. If the bandanas work, I might reconsider. . .

The cool bandanas really work. I buy them for my hubby when he mows the yard. My guys also wear them when riding their motorcyles in the heat. I put them on my black lab last summer.
