Aaaaaaaargh!!!

Riley the "digger" is really on Mom's poop list. I came home from the store and found he's dug up the carpet that attaches to the tile in my entryway! This is the second time he's done this in a week....and I am at my wits end. I sprayed the area with bitter stuff but he's not chewing...he's digging!

Guess who is losing run of the house!

Hey Jean, it's your fault. He needs a puppy to play with when you're not home.

Yikes. Sorry to see that. I had a friend who had a cute friendly litte small dog, was a mix but think he had some havanese. They put her in the bathroom when they went away and he dug right thru into the subfloor. She ended up having to put her in his crate when they left home. Luckily my friend didnt work so she only had to be in it for few hours at a time max. But the dog seemed to not mind the crate at all. I had to use a crate the first 6 months with my puppy but after that he had free range of the house and never did anything but lay on the top of the couch and look out the window waiting for me. Sounds like seperation anxiety and she misses you, I'm no expert so not sure how to stop that.

I went thru a lot of that with Dora and I remember being so frustrated (more so that my husband was going to find it). She chewed the original molding on our old home. I didn't notice and she ate all the corners off-yikes. Then I put up a gate and between her and Belle they scratched out a piece of the wooden floor in about 3 hours!!! Belle is fine as long as she isn't caged. So I had to Dora proof areas of my house- bitter apple worked for chewing but a lot of it was just creative ways to hide areas that could be trouble. I think you are right about you need to do. But Geri's suggestion is my favorite!

Ohhhh yes, a "partner in crime!"....that's all he'd need. lol!
I used to fence him into the back part of the condo when he was a baby to keep him out of trouble. I will just have to do that with him again! Dang...he's really been a good guy. He just found this new fun thing to do and I don't think he's going to stop.

Hmmmm...I've been thinking about putting in pergo. Any thoughts?

Jean, Pablo used to do that in one spot in our old apartment. He finally dug the carpet up from underneath the metal plate that lead to the balcony. I think he may have smelled something underneath it. Once he had lifted that edge, I cleaned it, tuck the carpet under the metal plate and put a piece of plastic runner on top, problem solved. Can you put a big enough piece of vinyl over that area and put some vases or other heavier objects left and right to keep Riley from removing the vinyl? Maybe if he can't dig in that area for a few weeks, he'll just forget.

Jean,
I think he may just be mad at you for using his grooming spray.
