Next week, I will be leaving my Mimi behind as I accompany my mom to visit my grandfather in Mexico. She visits periodically to check on him since he is 88 years old and holding strong. All his daughters live in the Texas, but he decided to go and live the rest of his days in a quiet town.
Alas, the road trip is quite long and I won't be able to take my little Mimi.
I am starting to get a little anxious and need to remember not to feel it too much as I don't want Mimi to get anxious herself. This is the first time that I will be away from her for any period of time longer than 7 hours. (I've gone off during the day, but DH has stayed with her)
Any suggestions as to what I should do to make sure she doesn't miss me much and to keep her comfortable? I think I will start a skype account so I can see her and my DH while I am gone for my benefit! Maybe she and DH will bond more during this time.
I know how hard it is to leave the first time, but this will be very good for your DH and Mimi... they will bond a lot more. Kubrick and my DH did very well when I left them alone the first time (for 2 weeks) and it was great for them both, I think.
As for things to leave behind, I left a pillowcase I slept on for a couple of weeks on top of Kubrick's bed, which I think helped. Also, I had written and precise instructions on how to care for him for DH.
Dont'w worry to much about it. The first time I left Beamer for vacation I was crazy.. lol.. But everything turned out fine! (obviously..) It's a vacation for both of you! And when you return, she will be VERY happy to see you..
