FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE BEEN PUNCHED IN THE STOMACH

So thrilled Max has been found...and Chalie is safe and sound...

We had our own moment a few days ago but since all turned out I didn't have the heart to write about a good ending until I knew they were safe...but......

as a result....I have taken it upon myself to be proactive.

Friday went to work - dog walker comes, son comes home locks door when he leaves (verified) but somehow 2 precious boys who are always in the crate together when we are not home...and an unusual wind....my precious boys ended up on their own outside.(NEVER happened before)

To Be the horrible Hav mom...my guys are not charges..etc. but door blew open and for some unknown reason they got out of the crate..and were walking around smelling...crossed the court and on their way to the corner which is about 25 feet to a major road...my neighbor saw them(she just decided since it was the first 80 degree day to talk on her cell phone outside) and just knew it wasnt right..ran after the boys brought them back, door was wide open, we were not home and when she told me later that night i felt like I was going to . i truly mean it...

blessed all is ok..but made a decision....

decided to create a flyer for all my neighbors...including the pix and names of all the dogs/cats on the street who are NOT suppose to EVER be on their own outside. We live in a neighborhood where animals dont run freely and I want to make sure that everyone knowes everyone elses dogs etc...people drive up and down street frequently...and I just hope for more recognition of our animals.

the response is amazing....everyone wants their fur bables safe...

just a thought..

What an excellent plan for your neighborhood! I'm sure everyone will be grateful to you for this, and it will also make everyone more proactive watching out for each other's pets, too!

Sounds like you live in a wonderful neighbourhood.

Glad to know your fur babies are safe.. what luck that a neighbour was outside and was able to return your 2 before something happened.

Catherine that is so scary, I am so glad your neighbor was outside on the phone and Ollie & Austin are safe.

Making a poster is a great idea, Havanese Rescue has some great information on finding lost dogs along with a sample poster. Click here then click on Lost Pet Recovery Handbook.

I see what you are saying.

Maybe I should make a list for myself of what to do if: vet phone numbers, findfido.com, craigslist, the hav groups and hav yahoo lists
again, just in case. I am sure I'd be out of my mind and would not be thinking straight.

glad your neighbor helped.
I am wondering why little Max was out for so long and no one took him in.

Amy, those were my thoughts exactly. How could a little Hav survive for a week on his own outside without getting hit by a car or something, and how is it that no one else saw him and helped?

Catherine, your neighbor is an angel, and I'm sure this is on your mind constantly. Thank goodness they are okay. How strange that they got out of the house. Do you think it was the dog walker? The flyer was a great idea!!

Catherine, I am so happy that you had a happy ending. It must still be giving you chills to think of what could have happened.

It is a great idea making a flyer. You have wonderful neighbors.

Catherine, I am so relieved. I can't imagine how it would feel. Thank you for sharing your wonderful idea about canvasing the neighbors with flyers. what a great idea to do it before they get lost so that people know that if these dogs aren't with a human... somethings wrong! thank heavens for your neighbor and an 80 degree day!
