Why didn't I think of this sooner??

I've been trying to figure out some kind of temporary fence for Todd to lay out in the sun on nice days and so I went to Home Depot and picked up plastic garden fencing in a 25 ft roll.
I was getting ready to measure out an area off of the slider to put it up when it occured to me that I already have "temporary fencing"...Todd's enormous X-pen that we rarely use
I wrapped it around the patio area and it fits perfectly!
Now, I can leave the sliding door open a little and he can come and go as he pleases...he won't potty in the area...he still thinks of it as part of the house but he's loving having a outdoor space to call his own.
I have tons of work to do to clean it up and so excuse the mess...I wanted to show it off right away
I'm still planning on adding another, larger fenced area with my garden fencing I just have to figure out the best way to set it up.

Great idea ..
I have seperated my X Pen and I have used it as a barricade to close the ends of a small patio and they can now use it as a run .. I use the panels .
I know hard to describe and pictures are not my forte .. But it works .
Cosmo never liked the X Pen . Funny he was fine in a baby's play pen when he was really small .. Hard to believe he will soon be three ..

That was a great idea, Eva. Did you secure it at all? I have the same type of xpen , so I wondered how you get it to stay put? I don't have a fence in my yard, so I'd like to try that

Wonderful! I have used two expens from Petco to secure the patio on my townhouse. I have a pet door that Riley uses to access the area and it's been perfect!

It's kind of thrown together right now.
It's jammed up against the house and I have a hanging wooden planter pushed up against one edge to keep Todd from pushing it out on one side and a big chunk of firewood on the other..lol
It works though. I can't wiggle it in either direction.
I worried that Todd might try to jump it since it's not very high but so far he hasn't tried..I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

It is interesting I have used barricades before and some of them are not that high .. People say - don't they jump over the fence .. No I do not know why are they certainly jump every where else ..
My german shorthair would have just pushed them until they moved .. He was not to be contained . Never liked his crate either .. Once I let him out of the crate and into the family room he was fine never tried to leave the area ..
I was not as knowlegable then but then again neither were the trainers I consulted .. It is so much better now

I am glad to see these working... we are trying to figure out a way to fence an area in a beach house we are renting this summer... we have two x-pens-- maybe we can use those....

JeanMarie, is it my imagination, or are the ex-pens stacked two high, so as to be taller?

Hey Diane~~~ good eye!
No, I have had a 24" fence around the patio since last Summer and Riley has shown no interest in jumping over it. However, I spotted a rather large raccoon the other day and got paranoid. I wrapped a 3 foot addition around the front just to give me a little piece of mind! lol! I figure most bigger animals could get over that but it would give little guy a chance to run through his door and hide!
