Poisonous plants

So we have two different indoor plants. Ivy (mostly above the kitchen cabinets but also a plant around knee level) and also two very large umbrella plants.

I have looked online and I think both might be poisonous. I assume I should get rid of them before we bring our puppy home?? I was thinking I could leave the ones above the cabinets and get rid of the knee high ivy.

I'm wondering if your dogs eat your household plants? Is it reasonable to keep my umbrella plants? I ask because one of them was from my brothers funeral 14 years ago. I'd like to keep it if at all possible.

My last dog was a Bichon who never bothered with plants, inside or outside. One day I came home to find she had eaten half of a large ivy plant I had on a stand. I panicked and called the emergency vet and thank God she was ok. No more plants after that scare! My Havanese, Molly, tries to get any leaf, weed or flower she see in her mouth. I could never trust her not to touch an indoor plant.

I don't go as far as Molly's mom… I do have house plants, but I am very careful ONLY to buy ones that are NOT toxic to dogs. (If I see something pretty, I look it up on my smart phone before purchasing!)

Like Molly, Kodi went for a very long time without TOUCHING a plant in or front hall, and then, suddenly, decided to chew it up. Fortunately it was NOT a toxic plant, so he was fine. But it made me very aware that just because they USUALLY leave something alone doesn't mean it won't suddenly get into their head to mess with it.

There are enough house plants that are not toxic that I prefer to stick with those!
