which is easier to potty train boys or girls!!

I was wondering what everyone's thought was about the difference between the boys and girls in house traing? I was told that the boys were easier to house train than the girls. I wonder if it really depends on the dog and its owner. I know it will take some time but it will work out.
I get to go play with some puppies tommorow!!! I can not wait.

I think it completely depends on the owner! Being involved with rescue, you generally see toy dogs turned in for housebreaking but dogs are very smart and unfortunetly their owners usually get too busy. You just have to be there for that time. No one wants to put the puppy in the x-pen but if you can't be there to watch every movement, potty training is going to take a long time!

I also learned to pick one method and stick with it because the dog gets confused. I know of a lot of maltese that are never potty trained but Isabelle is 100% just because we were home with her and stayed on top of it!

I really like the bell. Dora isn't very vocal (my maltese is!) and will go up and jump up against the door to let you know she needs to go out. It is going to be another adjustment for us when we move and can't just let her outside!

I have found both of my girls to train fast and my foster boy who was turned in for housebreaking only had one accident until I was trained!

Good luck

I was told that neutered boys, and the larger boys are better for house training ever so slightly--- becasue of bladder size. I found this to be true with both mine as my sister in law has more of problem with her girl. But I agree it is also the owner who makes or breaks it. And there are plenty of perfectly trained gals on this site. Be prepared for a longer time commitment with a smaller dog. But the effort pays off. I didn't feel either of my boys were truly house trained til 6 months of age (although we would go weeks without accidents.) So depending on what age you get your pup- 3-4 months of vigiliant guidance for a life time of a well trained dog. http://www.havaneseforum.com/images/...s/biggrin1.gif

I have always had females and have two females now. We rescued them both and did not go through the puppy stage with them but they were both outside dogs so we did have to train them to go outside. I guess I am just going with the puppy that I feel called. I have told our breeder what we are looking for so I am going to listen what she suggests.
