The big sneeze

When I sneeze Bessie would usually come up to me to see if I was ok, give me a quick lick and go back to what she was doing. Now when I sneeze she takes off like a rocket to get away to another room, tail between her legs. Any thoughts? Max? Well he may glance my way but other than that he doesn't react one way or the other when I sneeze.

Whenever I cough or sneeze, Tucker whips around, looks at me as if I've offended him, and moves farther away, sometimes even leaving the couch altogether for awhile. I always say "excuse me" or "sorry", but that makes no difference. He even does this when I am able to hold most of the sneeze back and just kind of squeak.

I guess he thinks I've used bad manners?

I wouldn't know this from personal experience or anything, but my yorkie would run from a fart. Hers or...... anyone else's.

LOL! Mimi does this but the confusing thing is that she also comes running to farts too... Crazy dog. Guess she can't decide if she likes it or not.

Murphy eats so fast that he burps every time he's finished, then he looks at me like, "What was that?" Goofy dog!

Dexter looks at me when I cough or sneeze....sort of saying..."What's that?" "You ok?" I just call Dexter and praise him, keeping everything postive.

Teach Bessie to get you a tissue when you sneeze!

That would make it fun for her - and convienent for you! To teach this trick:
Start out by holding your hand out close to her nose. Eventually, she will try bumping your hand with her nose (you can rub a treat on your hand to help with this). Say "touch" and give her a treat when she does this. Keep doing this until she can do it well. Then, take a tissue and put it between your fingers so it lays over your flat hand and ask her to "touch" with the tissue there. When she does, say "good touch" and treat her. Once she is doing this well, move the tissue to lay it on top of the tissue box and tell her "touch". be patient.. give her time to figure out what you want. As soon as her nose touches the tissue, give her lots of praise and treats. Once she is good at this, tuck the tissue in the box (just a little) and ask her to touch, but this time, wiggle the tissue with your hand to encourage her to take it in her mouth. The minute her mouth opens say "YES" and treat. Do this over and over until she takes it in her mouth. The next time you do it, when she puts the tissue in her mouth, move the box just a little to encourage her to pull. Make sure you treat even the smallest pull at first! Then wait a little longer for her to pull more. Once she is pulling the tissue out, you can add the "sneeze" as she is pulling. Once she is good at that, you should be able to sneeze to get her to do this on her own. If she tries to walk away with the tissue, lure her back to you by putting a treat at her nose, and she should drop the tissue for the treat.

Be patient, and give her time to figure it all out - before you know it she will be getting you a tissue for your sneeze because she will know that a sneeze means there is a treat coming soon!

Good luck!

(Here is a video of Duke doing this trick and a few others... I don't have one of just that one trick)

My guys would just shred the box of tissues and still expect a treat!

I'm impressed with your training skills though!!!

Yea me too! I would not be able to get the tissue back! But, then again, if Dexter knows I have a treat or even say the word, he will stop what he is doing.
