Marking on Pablo

I didn't know how else to title this thread. I am a little confused as to why any dog would literally mark another dog? In Pablo's case, I'm starting to believe it's his shampoo/conditioner smell.
The first time this happened was on our apartment complex where he met a bigger dog. He let that dog sniff him and low and behold that dumb a$$ lifts his leg and starts peeing on my poor freshly bathed dude. I quickly jerked Pablo's leash and saved him from the golden shower.
Yesterday, I took him to the dog park where a medium size dog sniffed him and since I saw it coming I was able to quickly push down on his leg and say 'EH' which deviated the pee away from Pablo.
In both cases the owners were stunned (or so they pretended) and in both cases it was 1 day after I bathed Pablo.
Pablo is a strong Beta in my eyes. He's usually very calm in approaching other dogs and gives them the chance to sniff him in peace without being submissive. Any ideas?

BTW, feel free to laugh, cause I know it's funny. But I feel bad for him, he's just trying to be nice and they just pee on him, LOL.

Oh no poor Pablo! Were the other dogs male in both cases? I was wondering if they were female maybe they had the hots for Pablo, being such a sweetie. Sounds like the other dogs are marking Pablo as theirs, I guess he smells too good

Sorry I can't be of help...

Maryam- I can laugh with you!!!! I just told Leeann the other night... Belle and Dash are in marking combat and we have been having to distract Dash cause he is fast and he has peed on Belle twice that I know of. She then goes back and pees on the spot. It is usually they all run out side at the same time. Belle goes to pee and Dash watches and runs across and goes to mark that spot before she is done.... But like I said he is fast!

I think for my dog, he isn't marking Belle but marking the spot. Belle attacks him for looking like he wants to hump her! However, I have seen so many dogs at obedience and agility trials when owners aren't paying attention, have other dogs pee on crated dogs. It happened to Belle and Dora one night and I had to bath them it was sooo gross.

I am thinking they aren't intentionally peeing on him? But I could be wrong...

Both dogs were males.

Amanda, since both dogs were sniffing Pablo on his back and side and then peed on him, I doubt they were marking a spot on the ground or that it was unintentional. If he was in his crate, I could understand it somewhat, because the dogs would be marking the crate not actually Pablo. Weird.

Also, Pablo's gotten peed on before because he was nosy and wondering what that lovely golden stream is that's coming out of the Dane's Schniedel. Now THAT was unintentional on the Dane's part

Lol, golden showers on long haired dogs suck! My neutered male Papillon has marked Sophie a couple times. A dominance trait perhaps?

I feel for you.
Todd's been peed on several times before (usually after he's freshly bathed) I wonder if the lack of "doggie" smell coupled with the shampoo smell just confuses other dogs? Maybe they're just trying to make them smell more doglike..lol

LOL, Eva, that's what I was thinking. Don't you use the EQyss products on Todd? That's what I use on Pablo and now I'm wondering if that may be the problem! Maybe I should contact them and raise their awareness about this issue
It could also be a dominance thing too, I dunno.

That's weird... I use Eqyss on both Kubrick and Hitch and neither have ever been peed on by another dog, and we meet lots of them! Poor Pablo... I hope you find out what's causing this.
