Too bored to poo

So something funny happened this morning. Not ha ha funny, but more like peculiar. I feel like Kipper needs to be excited to poop!

Initially the backyard seemed to not interest him and he just wanted to be taken for walks so he could potty. But by now, for the most part, when we take him out back, he will start sniffing and I kind of know that he's on "potty mode".

This morning I took him out for his poo break after he had breakfast and he was just being a dud. He did not want to walk around and he would just stare up and look at me. He did this yesterday, too, and did not potty. Well, I KNOW this is a time when he goes because he's been going at this time for about 2 weeks now. All of a sudden, a bird comes into view and he gets all excited. He tried to go after it and I thought, "I bet he poops now". And sure enough! After that little bout of excitement, he started sniffing and went within 2 minutes. What's with that?

Sorry for the long post! My slight OCD makes me type out all the details!

Exercise helps stimulate elimination, which is one of the reasons why dogs often need to stop during walks through the neighborhood. If your dog doesn't go quickly, he may just need a few more minutes of walking. One of my dogs normally has to make two stops, several minutes apart. After the second stop, I know we are safe to go back inside.

I had read that somewhere. So I always make it a point to have him on a leash now and walk around the yard with him so the movement can help him get going. What's funny is that today he just didn't seem interested in walking around the yard. Guess I wasn't fun enough but the bird was!

Squirrels help out at my house! It is rare that we don't interrupt at least a couple of squirrels at the bird feeder .
