Cash is getting nuetered

Well, the time has come. He got out of it once by getting into something in the yard and having to spend 24 hours on IV. But tomorrow is the day. I think I will take someone's advice and wake up early to let him get a long walk before we take him in. I'm nervous, but trying not to let it show- lest he try to get out of it again.

I hope things will go good for you guys!!! How old is he. I am interested but have not decided between the two. My husband wants a girl because he feels that the boys will have pee on his belly from peeing and he does not want to deal with markings.

What do you think?

Also the breeder that we are going with does not allow us to spay or neuter until they are around a year old. She has said that the growth plates may have not closed before they get done before the age of 6 months. So that makes me nervous about a male puppy. I know we will make the right decision. I really like our breeder alot she is very helpful and informative. A bonus is that she lives 20 minutes away and I can play with the puppies whenever I want!!!! Going over there later to play and try and decide which one we want!!!

Smile!!

Meg, I have two boys- so I can't really speak to the differences. But I don't find much pee on my boys bellies. just on the little wick of fur on their pee pee's. But a female would have that too. I do know that the females are the more dominant in this breed and my sister in-laws in-tact female marks more than my boys. But I think a nuetered/spayed male/female woudl be about the same. My boys will mark when out on a walk- but I have never had any marking in the house. The saying goes the girls will love you but the boys will be in love you. That being said, both my boys are very independent and not real cuddle bugs.

I think you've decided on a girl Meg. My vet has always told me, unless there is some evidence of hormones raging and creating dicipline problems that you never have to nueter/spay them. But with two, I don't want to let dominance issues come up- so we are going ahead. There is some thought that it is easier on them the younger that are too. But sounds like you have a great relationship with your breeder. So I would do it her way. When do you get your pup?

Meg, Sam has full show coat and pees on himself constantly. It is very frustrating. His sides and legs need to be bathed every day or two. But if you don't plan on showing you can trim the hair so it won't be a problem.

Don't worry Cash, you will be just fine.

I am going to in a little bit to go and play with the puppies and see if I can narrow it down. I thnk we are going to go with female. My poor husband He is going to be really out numbered now. We have two female dogs already!!! I will let you all know as soon as I know what we went with. I know I will be happy either way!!!! I can not wait. This site has been a lifesafer becasuse it has helped me realize that I will not be alone with the puppy stages!!!

Thank you all!!

Good luck, Cash! You'll do just fine... it's mom that gets worried, but you'll come back home tired but raring to go the very next day.

Don't lick those stitches too much or mom's going to have to stick a cone around your head!!

((hugs))
