I think I would have had to call 911, no way I'm touching one of those things.

I wouldn't know what to do, I'd probably go to the vet.

So far, on separate occassions, we have pulled 4 or 5 ticks off of Dexter. These ticks are very small (about the size of rice, uncooked). The only way we found these ticks is by stroking/fingering Dexter's hair.

Ann....get use to pulling them off with some tweezers. Get as close to where the tick is attached and pull slowly to see if the tick will loosen...you want to get the whole tick out. Then clean the area with a little alcohol.

I found a tiny little bug on Murphy last night but I don't think it was a tick, at least not from pictures of ticks that I've seen. This was just caught in his fur and I felt it when I was petting him. It slid right out.

DH is going to have to be the tick remover, I don't think I can do that.

My daughter got one on her head years ago, she was about 5 years old, and I almost died! We had been at a birthday party where all the kids were playing in the woods behind the house. Her dad took it out but didn't get it all and I didn't know it until about a week and a half later when she cried as I was brushing her hair. Had to take her to the doctor. She had a large scaly bump about the size of a quarter where the tick had been. The doc said her dad didn't get it all out and her body was trying to push it out. They had to gently pull the scaly thing off, she was crying and I was freaking out. They got it off though and the head of the tick was in it. So gross!!! That's my only experience with ticks.

Coming from New England originally, our nightly routine for the kids were baths and tick checks. I was always pulling ticks off of them. Age has made me chicken "poop". I had to pull the one off of Evye and it grossed me out !!!! My first thought was to wait until DH came home but felt so bad and worried it would embed even more...so I mustered up the courage and did it...I didn't like it too much....gross !!!!

My daughter had to pull a tick out of my head a couple of years ago...Ewwwww. I went to my doctor and asked to be put on doxycycline. He reluctantly gave me a prescription.

You can do it! The tick will be firmly attached to the dog's skin, so take the tweezers and start wiggling it to see if it will loosen, if not, pull it out and when you do make sure you see it crawling around, if so, you got it all!

It is JUST a bug!
