FYI...Natural Balance Kibble

I feed Benji and Lizzie Natural Balance Potato and Duck kibble. I opened a new bag a couple of days ago and after one meal Benji had a lot of gas. His stomach was growling and gurgling so loudly that one could hear it from 6-8 ft. He was so miserable that he didn't eat anything for 24 hours and even refused to drink water. I gave him Tums and a homeopathic medicine. Lizzie, initially was fine, but after her second meal she started burping. They both felt better after the medication.

They both are doing well now. I am feeding them homecooked chicken, potato, carrots and green beans.

The kibble bag is from the lot with the exp. date. 11 Aug. 10. I called Natural Balance and they assured me that the kibble is safe and free of contamination. However, they asked me to return the bag to Petco.

If anyone uses Natural Balance, I just wanted this information out. Thanks!

Best, Poornima

That is so scary. I would ask your vet if they can test a sample.

That is so odd. My dogs eat the same thing, as it is the only food I have found that my Maltese can tolerate.

The bag that we just finished up was definitely different than it has been, and different than the one we opened yesterday. The kibbles were speckled in color, not an all over color like they generally are. I noticed it right away but the dogs didn't seem to mind but now that you mention it Winston, the Maltese HAS had worse gas recently. A bag only last us about 10 days, so it's not always easy to keep track.

The date on the bag that we are using now is an earlier date than yours, but like I said, this one's kibble looks more "normal" to me than the last bag did. Unfortunately the other bag is gone.

I did see 2 other brands of kibble today at our small dog shop that are mainly duck, but they were even more expensive than the Natural Balance at about $2.30/lb and brands I had never heard of.

thanks for letting us know....

Last week I bought the 12.5 bag of NB small bites and noticed it looks a little different than our normal 5 lb bag kibble. It seems to have more air holes that the other. It is dated 21/Apr/10. Smarty never rushes to her food and could care less for any of it, no difference, no gas. Our Jack Russell eats anything fast and has not had a problem from this bag.
