Question For Users of DE

My edible DE finally came. Now I'm not feeding it but using it for fleas. I have dusted the house especially pet areas, the yards and the animals. I have a couple of questions.

How often do I need to dust the furbabies?

How often for the house and yard?

How long does it take to get rid of the fleas?

Thanks in advance.

Diatemaceous Earth, is it used for fleas or worms. Also can be used for other household bugs and has alot of benefits for human consumption too.

Here's a link to a page that describes the use of food grade DE for fleas, as well as other wholistic treatments. This site, Wolf Creek Ranch, is dedicated to natural rearing and wholistic treatment methods (nutrition, natural remedies, supplements, etc.)

We use nematodes for the yard.

I dust the house once a month and Todd about once a week.
A few small handfuls is all that you need for most of the house but make it a little heavier along the edge of the walls and under the furniture and then brush it in well with a broom...it's very dusty and so doing it on a nice day when you can leave the windows and doors open helps.
If you use too much it can clog your vaccum cleaner filter.
It can also be drying to the skin and so I try not to use it on Todd any more that necessary. If he starts getting dandruffy I usually skip a week or two.
I've never treated the yard with it (since it turns the lawn white) so I can't help with that one.

We have 20-50 (and above) mph winds here on a regular basis. I can just see doing my yard and watching all that money fly into my neighbor's yard.

Talk about a mess, they put a new roof on a couple of days ago and guess where the old roof flew as it was being taken off? They couldn't wait till the next day when the wind was blowing toward the other direction???????????

Thanks Leslie, this is a great site. Yes I'm going to look into the nematodes too. Do you have someone come do it, or do it yourself? How do you spread them around. I did the DE by hand, not sure that would work with the nematodes. Thanks again. Great info, I'm going to really check that site out.
