Hav's Swimming

It is almost lake season here, and we have a beautiful summer spot on the lake. We will be bringing Baloo for his first visit on Mother's Day on Sunday if it isn't raining. I hope he enjoys it there as much as we do, I am sure he will by the end of summer.

We do alot of swimming there and I was just wondering if anyone has any advice on introducing your Hav to water? I hope he will be a swimmer, but if not he will just have to sit on the edge or under the shade.

I think this summer will definately be testing with his long coat and swimming though...I may need to get a 2nd set of grooming supplies just for the lake.

Anyways would love to hear everyone's advice and experience with respect to taking your hav's swimming.

Cheers!

One of my Havs will swim- Dora. She will even go in when she isnt suppose to but won't go into a pool. I think it has to do with the gradually walking in v. not being able to. But to be honest I wasnt swimming in the pool to get her to go in so that probably would help. But a few times she has gone into pond/lakes on her own. She also went into the ocean once but I think the waves were a bit too much. I would allow Baloo to go at his own pace but you can encourage him

Brady loves to swim. I just introduced him slowly and he went right for it. Dugan is not yet interested in the water, but we will have to see wha the summer brings. Brady tried to go in our neighbors creek in the freezing cold. He just loves the water. We took him to Cape Cod last year (and are again this year) and he loved the lakes and ponds. Here are a few pictures of my little water dog.

Oh Brady is a water dog...love the pic of him giving the "eye" to the tennis ball. Hopefully Baloo will take to it like him.

We had a mixed daschund/terrier dog growing up named Sheena, and boy did she love to swim. Even went off diving boards, and wouldn't come in from the water untill everyone in her human family came in....Oh she was a sweetie (RIP...I still luv ya) anyways, back on topic.

I am going to take it slow and let him go at his own speed, he loves getting bathed so that is one plus.

I love the pictures of Brady playing in the water and I've always been a huge fan of Winston, especially swimming!

I hope you have a better experience than we did with Biscuit. We took him to Lake Tahoe, where we have a cabin, hoping he would love it. Got him all duded up with doggy swimmies. He HATED it, and swam for shore everytime. A total scaredy cat. Maybe we'll try again with Heath & see what happens. . .Heathy is fearless and loves when I use the hose to water. . .

Look at that cute Brady. He LOVES it. Karen, gosh he looks even more like Biscuit than I realized. His long muzzle and the look in his eyes. It's uncanny.

Such cute shots of Winston, Trish. It's a dog's life, huh, LOL!

HAV A GREAT DAY ! ~~AMY & BISCUIT~~
and HEATH-Y, TOO !
