Issue #29 contains the following articles:
In addition to our regular educational articles we have a few special writers joining us for this issue. Richard Dawkins contributed an excellent article on Fireworks that is thought-provoking. There is also a fairly comprehensive well-balanced report written for the Havanese Breed magazine by the local reporter on the scene surrounding Liz Vargo and her Destiny Havanese in Hancock County, Stephen Huba. You’re going to want to read it if you have been following that tragic situation. Gillian Ridgeway writes “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff” as she explains that dog training should be fun for both the trainer and the dog. Lyn McLean has contributed an article from her home in New Zealand on their large dog show. Aversives by Dave Thorpe discussed using management instead of aversives to teach and train your dog. We received an article from Egypt from Maha Anwar about bringing in a Havanese to her country and how it is all perceived. And then a teaching article from Joan Weston, Don’t Say Don’t (Just don’t, Really). Joan is a canine behaviour specialist. Her always amusing stories teach important lessons. In this one she answers the question “How can I get my best friend to stop humping my wife?” Then Ellie and Miko Go Antiquing by Inge and Jim Shears which is exactly as stated in the title. Darlah Potechin contributes Snow Fun with Your Havanese which was perfect as the snow started falling here last night and still hasn’t let up. In her story “Being Careful What You Wish For ...” Lyndall Fry continues her ongoing diary written through the eyes of her Havanese, Saki, which is always enjoyable. Wendy Allenby continues to update us with her Uniquely British Perspective. Then we have an article I wanted to share with those interested about breeding that was written 13 years ago and almost seems to have come from a different era titled To Breed or Not to Breed – That Is the Question by Sierra Milton. Tom Wettlaufer has his usual interesting article, this time asking Why is it a Bichon? And last but not least Suzie Kalman continues her Day in the Life with an article she called The Circus is back in Town.
The Havanese Breed magazine is devoted to the breed, and remains independent of any club. Every second month we bring you great articles, information, advice, humor, and guidance on a wide variety of subjects, concerns, training, nutrition, breeding, care, shows and products from a half a dozen countries all a part of the greater Havanese community. THIS IS NOT A CLUB MAGAZINE. We are not affiliated with the Havanese Club of America http://www.havanese.org/
or the Havanese Fanciers of Canada http://www.havanesefanciers.com/
although I would like to think we have an excellent working relationship with both.
WE ARE NOT AFFILIATED WITH Havanese Rescue in Canada http://www.havaneserescue.ca/
or the USA http://www.havaneserescue.com/
but there is nothing I wouldn’t do for them, to help with their respective missions.
