I met another Hav today!

We went out for brunch this morning and when we left the restaurant there was a woman there with her two daughters and two dogs. One was a Lhaso and the other a darling black and white Hav named Cooper (I guess Cooper is a popular Hav name). I told her about our forum here and I hope she drops by.

This is the second Hav I've encountered in my travels around the Hudson Valley. My neighbor down the street is researching breeders now and will hopefully have one soon. I hope they don't get too popular, but it is nice to see these wonderful dogs around.

Today, was my first time, that I actually met a person in town who had a Hav.

We were at the gardening center and I took Dexter with me. Today was a good socialization day!

Anyway, a man asked what kind of dog I had because Dexter was so friendly and I said Havanese. And, he said, they have one at home they rescued in Georgia. Then, he looked at Dexter's expression really good and they were so happy because it was the same sweet expression as the their Hav at home!

I am kind of glad the Havs are not really popular! We will keep the secret to our self!

They were surprised that Dexter was a Hav also. I did not get to

That's cool! I have only seen one other Hav here (other than in the pet store).

I find myself watching so much closer looking for a Hav, but there are so many different "looking" hav's depending on their coat and whether it is full or cut. My son's friends have a hav and they keep him in a really short puppy cut and I find he looks more like a poodle.

The word is getting out....these are just a great breed and they are growing in popularity!

The first Hav I met was in the Hudson Valley! I am originally from Rockland county, and friends of ours that live there have a Havanese. It's actually how we fell in love with the breed.

We were out walking in the Arboretum yesterday and there were so many dogs, and I kept looking for a Hav, but no luck :-(

Other than at a breeders or a show, I have never run into another hav, just one hav mix. I have met two people that recognized my dogs as havanese. That's in over two years!!

I haven't come across anyone yet! My vet said she has one other in her practice but I don't know them.

I, too, met another Hav in my small town (pop. 5,600). He was in a short puppy cut, so he looked like a poodle, and was 16 lbs, and tall. Stormy is 10 lbs, and was a few inches shorter than....Jasper, I think that was his name.

It's nice to see the breed around, but I too, like having something that other people don't have!

I first met my first hav at a dog park when I took Mimi there.. We kind of looked at each other and said at almost same time "is your dog a havanese?!" It was a nice coincidence...

Today, I saw a young girl walking her dog outside my office and I asked her what kind of dog but she did not know...I walked over because it looked like a havanese and the pup just rolled over for belly rubs! She got her as a gift from her aunt whose other dog didn't like this one... It made me sad it could have been a backyard breeding dog...
