havanese advice please

I take my havanese outside about 6 times a day or as needed. Today I took her for her evening walk on her leash. And a person in my apartment complex saw her and stood there and just starred at her. (I have never been fond of this person so I avoid her mostly). I politely said hi..and my doggie was barking at her, she does not bark at everyone. I finally got my dog to stop barking and eventually my dog & I left. Can it be that my dog picked up on that I am not fond of this person? The woman is rather cold & quite strange..so I always try to avoid her because of this. I wish I had just picked up my dog and turned the other way & walked away immediately. The woman got crazy and said oh I don't want her to bite me. Seems rather comical as my dog is farrr from being aggressive. I am thinking this woman said this out of spite because she knows I am not fond of her, or she is just plain nuts! Other tenants love my dog & they stop to pet her..I have to use the back door a lot to avoid people making over her. Also my dog goes up to some people for pets..as I tell them just let her come up to you on her own.

Dogs can sense how your feeling. My two started barking more at about 8mo old. A trainer said that they are protecting me.

Thank you

That makes sense...as I thought she might have been trying to protect me. I really do think dogs are smarter then people most of the time.

To be honest, there are neighbors I cannot stand, but my dogs love them. I know. The couple of neighbors I have in mind love dogs and my dogs, and are familar to my dogs. Just saying it isn't always true who you dislike, doesn't always mean your dogs will dislike them. I will say though, me being a woman, all of my dogs (male or female dogs) are a little more wary of men.
