Shadow's home from being spayed

My poor little baby! She's moving so slowly and carefully. The 2 times I've had to pick her up (once at the vet's to put her in her crate and then here at home taking her out) she has "screamed" in pain Right now she's in her ex-pen with her favorite blanket. Sure hope she bounces back quickly...I hate seeing her like this. If she keeps this up it won't be too difficult to follow the vet's instructions to keep her calm and not let her jump or climb.

Poor thing. I know it is a little more invasive for the females. Please keep us posted and I hope she feels better soon!

Get well soon, Shadow. It's hard to see them not feeling well, especially after having surgery.

She'll probably be feeling much better by tomorrow.

Oh, hang in there Leslie. I had Wendy (now Maddie) spayed before she went to her new home. It was definitely much worse than having my boys neutered. If you can pick her up with one hand up under her crotch and the other hand holding her neck, with the crotch hand scooping her up so her back is arched a bit and carrying most of the weight, it will be easiest on her and probably won't cause her much pain at all.

The good thing is that it only last two or three days or so. These guys heal remarkably fast but I still cringe at the memories. Just ask Jeanne (Maddies Mom). I emailed her through the whole ordeal. It was very unnverving, but I ended up taking her out of her e-collar early and giving her freedom much sooner than planned because she healed so quickly.

Best wishes to you and Shadow! I wish you both a speedy recovery too.

Oh Kimberly....I'm glad you chimed in with your experience with Maddie (Wendy). I remember your telling me how much pain she was in the first day or two. I felt so bad for her (and you!). My first havanese was spayed, but it was over 8 years ago, and I forgot how bad it was for a female. It definitely is a bigger operation than that for a male. Basically, its like a hysterectomy. However, Maddie was her old self a week out. When I brought her home from your house, I couldn't keep her from RLH or leaping our deck stairs in one motion. So hang in there Leslie and Shadow!
