I Went Back!

I went back to the manual nail clippers from the Dremmel type nail clippers, the manual clippers are so much quicker and Dexter is not as wiggly now compared to when he was younger.

Dexter still doesn't like his nails done and puts up a little fuss. Dexter is held firmly and I try not to squeeze the nail to hard with my hand. Still......................Have to tell Dexter to "Stay" and............use "Eth!" "Eth!' And.........."Good Boy" when he is still. This time, he got a treat when the back feet were totally completed, which took less than 5 minutes. We did the front nails yesterday.

I have to put Dexter on my lap on his back to get the back nails though, which helps a lot to get at those nails.

I was just actually researching the dremel/peticure stuff today, and thought maybe I would just try regular clippers.

What kind do you use? the guillotene (sp?) style?

I went back too! My Pedicure isn't holding a charge very well and I'm happier using the guillotine style trimmers.

I have never used a dremmel, just the manual ones. When I bring them to the vet, they use a dremmel.

I have clippers that have a little guard, so I do not clip too much of the nail.

Which is better for nail clipping? The guillotine or the clippers?

I found nail clipping a puppy very hard to do.....they act like you are killing them! I guess, you just keep on trying to clip the nails and as the pups grow up....it gets easier, right?

I'm glad I didn't buy the Peticure, I just can't see that working between the noise and how long I know it would take. Great marketing angle, though, I'm sure they made a fortune, since nobody likes doing their pets' nails, we'd try anything to make it less of a battle and avoid injuring them. I'm going to ask the vet to clip them and show me next time. I forgot to ask on our first visit. I'm never sure how much to cut. Violet has both black and white nails.

I might be the only one on here that does not do nails. Groomer or the vet. My vet showed me and I do not feel comfortable, at all.

I still use the Pedicure...Tucker much prefers it to the clippers. He hates the snap of the guillotine (sp?) ones. My Pedicure is still doing well--it sure ought to, it's only a few months old.
