I made a ugly Havanese snow suit

I have been spending hours trying to design a snow suit for our Havanese that live in snow areas. I was excited I got it all sewed up and even after attaching a foot or two backwards I had one made. I put it on Zoey and Hated it. I think its just color choices and the white Velcro. I had to adjust the pattern to work with the gortex fabric. I also had to adjust it for the chest and the way it fits in the back. The sleeves were the hardest so I've adjusted that to. This suit took me over 12 hours to make and rip apart and start over. I even sang the song " You have to know when to fold them and know when to hold them" I said I'm never making another about 50 times. I'm taking a brake from it but did buy some new fabrics. My ugly suit is on it's way to Alaska and Three Havanese are going to test it out.

What I'm worried about is weather boots are really a good idea for a dog. I'm worried that their claws help them grip to be safe in slippery snow. What do you guys think. I don't want to have a hurt Havanese.

I Suzi, it's not "cute" like a lot of the other clothes you've made, but snow suits for PEOPLE aren't so "cute" either! They are supposed to be utilitarian, THEN you can work on the decorative part! It looks to me like Zoey is covered in all the right places. (even if she looks fit to kill ) I think the same suit in a bright blue or red, even with just the same white edges would be fine!

As far as the boots are concerned, snow usually isn't that slippery, and people can choose whether to use them or not, right? Around here, it's not just snow that's a problem, if you walk on the sidewalk, you also have to contend with salt, which is very bad for their pads, and also bad if they lick it off. So boots that stayed on would be a welcome solution to that problem. If I had a suit that could REALLY keep Kodi from getting slushy and salty, I'd walk him more in the winter.

Thank you karen, Another design question is that with the boots built into the suit like so many people have requested I see them wearing out before the suit. I could have them send it back for a fee to add new boots. What do you think?

That's a really good idea. Or what about an over boot to protect the soles… or would those not stay on?

I think the design is great. I have looked for a water repellent suit for the rain that would completely cover Scout and have not found one. This is exactly what I have looked for. Is it open on the underside? Red would be nice...

Thank you for liking my ugly suit. I did buy a nice red today. Maybe red and black would look good.
