103.7 fever

Sugar has a fever. She is not acting like herself. She didnt eat her dinner and has been sleeping all evening. Does anyone have experience with fevers? None of my dogs have ever had one before. I will take her to the vet tomorrow if she is still not herself.
She hasn't gotten into anything- hasnt eaten anything strange. Hasn't gotten recent shots.
Should I be worried?

Hey Katie,

I am sorry sugar has a fever, but the fact that she is eating is a good sign. Hope she keeps feeling better and no doctor's appointment will be necessary.

Sending puppy licks and belly rubs her way.

Gucci had a fever for a few days awhile back. Took her to the vet, several tests, several hundred dollars later, she just recovered after about 48 hours and the vet never could figure out what was wrong besides a possible 'virus'?

This was last summer. I'm sorry she's sick, I hope it resolves itself quickly! Although, when Gucci had the fever she wouldn't eat or drink, they told me to force pedialyte (she wasn't thrilled with that, lemme tell ya!)

I wish we had a way to know what is going on when our babies are sick

Hugs~
Kara

is there a emergency vet clinic you can call? i remember once django had an awful fever and i called the emergency vet, they recommended giving him an aspirin (i don't remember the dose, it's based on weight, might have been 1/8 of a pill) they will tell you the dose, but i gave it to him and he felt better until i could take him to his regular vet. just an idea.

Katie, my only experience with temp. was with Cash at the beginning on his very disturbing, very expensive undiagnosed illness. He had 103.4 and the vets were very alarmed that it was was over 103. If there is a vet you could call today I would. with a temp that high Sugar may need fluids to bring her fever down.

Cash's temp spiked, and waned and spiked again -- they suspected lyme and tested for that and other tick born diseases with no positives and then in 4 days he became lame. so we took him to a neurologist and 3000 dollars of testing (spinal tap and MRI included) later still no results...but they sent him home with two antibiotics-- one for tick borne and one for protazoan type infections-- and prednisone for an autoimmune if the antibiotics didn't work. Thankfully they did and he is back to normal.

He was lethargic, refused food (Cash never refuses food) and breathed like he ached all over. When we took him to the emergency vet they gave him subcutanious fluids the next day he was fine...the following day a fever...it was the up and down fevers that made them think Lyme.

But I would call a vet today... our emergency vet after they got his fever down told us to watch his temp and bring him back in if it went over 103 again.

I hope sugar starts to feel better
