Question Anyone from Chicago?

Hello All:

We're picking up our first Hav pup Sunday morning from Kentucky. I'm looking for Hav owners in Chicago (we live downtown - next to the Sears Tower) & was looking for any tips/suggestions of where to take our baby boy Tango once the weather breaks (besides walking along the shoreline, of course).

Anyone in the area?

Thanks so much!
Rachel

I know we've had members in Chicago in the past, so I hope people answer you. But I also want to make you aware that the Havanese National Specialty will be held in Chicago this summer, August 11-15th. It's a GREAT time and a wonderful place to meet other Havanese owners, including a number of people from the forum! Oh that's interesting! What does this entail (see what I did there? haha)? Is it a dog show, or is it training advice, booths, shopping, etc? I know exactly where Lombard is, so all I'd have to do is rent a car
Is there a fee or tickets to purchase or anything?

It's THE Havanese dog show… with some of the best Havanese in the country (and Canada too) attending. Besides the show, there are seminars, "pet parade", "parade of champions", vendors with really cool stuff (I spent WAY too much money last time! ) social events, (several dinner/auctions) performance events (agility, rally and obedience)… And just LOTS of opportunities to meet lots of other Havanese lovers and their wonderful dogs!!!

Go to the site I gave you, and keep an eye on things. The premium hasn't come out yet, so I can't tell you all the details. But the dates are set, and if you decide to come for the whole time (or several days) the hotel has a block of rooms set aside at a good price. (and dogs are allowed, of course! )

We're driving all the way from Boston, and you can bet we wouldn't be doing that if we hadn't had fun the last time!!!

Sounds amazing! I'll follow the fb page once I have him home. I've only told a select few about him, so once he's in my arms, I'll post to fb and then I'll follow that page. My step-aunt has a black Havanese. She lives in Ft Myers, but comes back to the Chicagoland area for the summer, so I'll have to tell her about this too!

I'm not from Chicago but my daughter goes to school there so we're up a few times a year. One of these times we'll bring the pups, we stay at The Palmer House which is pet friendly and we do fly with them. My daughter says there's a dog park right across from Mariano's on Benton, near Millenium Park. She gets her puppy fix there.

I went to Nationals the year before last and it was so much fun. I am planning on going again this year if everything works out. I met Karen last time I was up!

Oh thanks for the heads-up on the park location! That's walking distance from me!
I hope to go to the event this year...just depends how expensive it is. I won't need to book a hotel room since I don't live that far away...I'd just need to rent a car. I'd love to meet some of you guys though! How fun!

It's not expensive if you aren't staying at the hotel. I didn't pay any attention to what it cost to attend for a day without entering competitions, because we were entered as well. Jen could probably tell you that, though. She was only there for a couple of days, I think. Even the rooms aren't THAT bad (especially if you share with someone, which I do) but the FOOD!!! The hotel restaurant is obscenely expensive! There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance that are better, but we ended up going to the Walmart across the parking lot to buy yogurt for breakfast and lunch meat and stuff to make lunches in our rooms. But there were several dinner options as part of the specialty, and those were quite a bit less expensive than the hotel restaurant. They are fun too, as there are silent auctions attached to them.

Good information!
I grew up a couple of towns over, so I am VERY familiar with the area. I'd know just where to go to grab some lesser expensive food
I told my step-aunt about it and sounds like she'd wanna go too
