Pinecones

Our backyard has a ton of pinecones, and our puppy loves to chew on them. If I try to get the pinecone from him, he runs off and he is very tough to catch. Are the pinecones bad for him? Could he choke? Could he swallow a big piece from one and get a blockage? Am I worrying too much (or not enough)?
Thanks!!

I, personally, wouldn't let mine chew on pinecones. However, you don't want to make a game out of it. In "Puppies for Dummies," they explain how when you get everyone in the household chasing after the dog, he thinks to himself, "Wow, whatever I have must be REALLY good- they all want it!" When Frosty has something I don't want him to have, I just calmly walk after him until he's in close enough range that I can get a hand on him to catch him. Now when he knows he has something he's not supposed to, if he sees me coming toward him, he'll just bring it to me and drop it (most of the time). I think the big thing is to not make it a game. Good luck!

I do not think pine cones are a good idea but I know what you mean about the catch me game .. if Mom wants it then it has to be something really special not to mention the chase to get it is a game ..
try substition for now - keep a treat in your pocket and call treat and give him the treat eventually maybe you can sustitute a toy .. Hopefully it is a passing phase . When he has it in his mouth say Ugh Ugh - Yuck and offer the treat .. and say Yum !! Treat .
Hopefully it is a puppy phase thing and this too will pass..

I have tought Logan the "drop it command" so if he gets something he shouldnt we use that instead of chasing him. Pine cones would make me nervous, not sure how they digest. I also would be careful of them as they have sap and you could end up with horrendous mats from the sap on the fur. I would take a leaf blower every few days & blow them out of the yard if possible.
