Varies. Growth plates usually close after 8 months, so that will be about their top height. The rest depends on their bone, and what they're fed. They beef up until something past a year to two years. Fine boned won't gain as much, to heavy boned will beef up the most, and all in between.

Our Rosi is not going to be much over 6 to 6-1/2 pounds when she gets to six months. I expect she will top out in the 9's. She's pretty fine boned, but not extremely so.

How would I tell if she is fine or heavy boned?

It's a relative thing-one to another. I guess you would have to put your hands on a bunch of different Havanese. It's hard to tell without handling the dogs. If she's 6 pounds at 6 months, it's not likely that she's anything but fine boned.

Senor Tomas, that is exactly what my Vet says. That's what he told mi Popi when Popi was concerned about me jumping up and down heights of 24 to 36 inches when I was 9 months old and moved to my forever home (licky me!). My Vet says that a Havanese dog has to be a Havanese dog and let them do what they are destined to do and don't worry about it. He said that Ricky is an exuberant dog and let him do his thing.

At one year old, mi Vet felt my ribs and said, "Ricky you are close to full grown but I would like to see you put on another pound or two in the next year and then stay at that weight (13 to 14 pounds).

OH, my Vet says that I am heavy boned, built like a Hummer on steroids!

Mi amiga, Coco is 5+ pounds at 12 weeks and can she dish it out when she play ruff house with me, more than twice her weight. SHE WAS THE RUNT OF THE LITTER WHEN BORN! She is not fined boned and one heckuva bruiser!

Ricky, past the puppy stage, it's pretty difficult to keep an athletic Havanese from jumping onto and off of and over things in the course of play. But that's different from the repetitive stress of asking them to jump (and weave) over and over while learning agility. THAT'S what you want to avoid until they are fully mature.

What about standing up? Sassy loves to do that, will it hurt her back legs. She is 9 months old.

No, it won't hurt her in the least! It is the concussion of landing on their front legs over and over from formal jumping training that is bad.
