Spooked by stairs

I have stairs everywhere in my home. 15 stairs from the garage landing to 1st floor, 15 stairs from the first floor to second with a landing in-between, 5 stairs from the deck to the dog run, stair everywhere. Stairs have never been an issue for Django. For some reason now, he won't go up the stairs from the first floor to the second.

You can tell he's spooked by something, his tail goes between his legs when he approaches, and needless to say, he won't go up the stairs. I am able to carry him but he won't go on his own. I have tried giving him turkey pieces for each section he attempts but as soon as he gets to the landing, his little back curls up, his tail goes between his legs and he runs down the stairs to what he considers a safe place. He has no issue running down the stairs once he's upstairs.

I thought maybe there was an issue with his eyes, had the vet check things out when we went for his visit. He hasn't fallen or tripped on the stairs, it's just this particular run of stairs, don't know what's going on or how to get him out of this funk.

Try back-chaining it. Start him on the second stair from the top and reward him for taking just that ONE step. When he's comfortable with that step, (take as long has he needs!) add one more, etc, until he can do the whole set.

Interesting approach, I was working from the bottom up. Will take a go at it.
