Bald spot

My 18 month Havanese has a bald spot where his tail rests on his lower back. It does not look like a hot spot.... No redness, irritation or dry scaly skin. Could this be a blowing of puppy coat?? Derrie does not bite or scratch the bald spot.

Kodi doesn't have a tight tail, so it doesn't rest on his back. As a result, I can't tell you. I CAN tell you that horses lose the hair in areas that are rubbed by blankets in the winter, so it IS possible for there to be just a mechanical breaking of the hair from rubbing. Have you asked your breeder about it? Tight tails tend to run in certain lines, and she may have some experience with this. She may also have some suggestions for you in terms of how to manage it best.
