Warning for Therapy Dogs

I just wanted to send out this word of warning to those of us with therapy dogs. The therapy dog team leader at ARF sent out an e-mail concerning the potential transmission of MRSA (super staph infection) and pet therapy dogs. I've noted the link to the article. After checking with a vet, ARF suggested that in addition to cleaning our hands with Purell after a visit, we use alcohol wipes to clean our dog's paws. I always use the Purell, but hadn't thought about Maddie. Our dogs walk on the floors of these facilities, and there can be some dangerous bacteria that can be transferred. So just a heads up!

I've wondered about that myself, but keep forgetting to ask. I do know that if I decided to take Maddie to any facility other than the ones on the ARF list, she is not allowed to wear her vest. I'm assuming the sponsoring agency has some liability waivers or some insurance in place with the facilities we visit.
