Horrible breath!

Hello everyone!
We just got back from a 2 week vacation. At the time we left, we only had Tango for about a month (he's almost 4 months old now). My mom took him while we were gone (she has her own small breed) and she kept us updated daily with texts, pics, and videos...but it wasn't enough! I missed him SO MUCH! I feel like I can never leave him again
Anyway, since we returned, we've noticed he has the WORST breath! We haven't changed his diet or anything, so it's not the food...but his breath smells like he's been eating his own poop
Any suggestions on something to help his breath?
Thanks in advance!

It's not uncommon for puppies to get REALLY bad breath while they are shedding their baby teeth and growing their adult ones. He's the right age for that to be a possibility…

Of course there IS the possibility that he's started poop eating, but I would assume your Mom would have mentioned that to you. If that's the problem, the best way to deal with it is prevention. Just don't let him EVER get to his poop. That means all potty outings ON LEASH so you can prevent it.

I would get some CET toothpaste and brush his teeth. If he will not let you brush just put a little on your finger and rub his gums. Maybe that will help…

Have you tried a probiotic? Scudder had the worst breath and this cured it

Sheba had very bad breath when she was about 4-5 months. It lasted a couple of weeks and she's been fine for the last couple of months. I think it was the teething process.

Ok everyone...he lost a tooth and that "cured" his bad breath! I assume there's more of that to come as he loses more teeth
Thanks for all your suggestions!

I'm bumping this thread because I was on the search due to same problem. I was wondering if it was due to being this stage (I found a tooth in my bed a couple days ago). I never had this issue with my other dog, even when he was a pup. They eat the same food (Stella & Chewy's), but whoa does my little girl's breath stink, even with brushing what few teeth she has right now! Hoping it passes. I find myself apologizing to friends and neighbors when petting her.

Yeah, it doesn't happen to all of them... It didn't happen with either of mine. But I've read about it over and over with small breeds. It seems pretty common.
