Won't eat from stainless bowl?

Hi all...Penny's been eating from a stainless steel bowl since I got her 3 weeks ago. Suddenly, starting this week, she won't eat from it. She'll eat if it's spilled out on the floor, no problem. Or if I put it on a paper plate (sort of). But if I put the food back in the stainless bowl, she refuses to eat from it. Weird part is that she is fine drinking her water from the matching stainless bowl. I've tried switching the two (water in the food bowl, food in the water bowl), and I can't outsmart her ... Have any of you experienced this? She's 13 weeks today.

At the other end of the spectrum, I just started experiencing the same situation with Tyler. He will eat his food if I put it on the floor in front of his dish or from my hand. His water too, is next to his food dish in the same type of stainless steel bowl and he has no problem with it. Very strange these little quirks that come up! I am not suggesting, however, that you start hand feeding Penny. In Tyler's case, he is almost 18 yo and a bit of pampering is what he's earned at his age. That's why I give in sometimes. Other times, I just leave it in his bowl and he eventually eats.
I think there is another thread on the forum where someone has encountered the same situation, i.e., dogs that want their food in a flat dish or from the floor.
I'm sure Penny will come around, as she is still very young. Good luck.

I use ceramic bowls for Molly. She went through a phase when she was younger when she also did not want to eat from the bowl. I put the food on the floor and she would eat it. We sometimes used paper bowls or plates also. This eventually passed and she went back to the ceramic bowl. I used to worry a lot more when Molly was younger if she was not eating her food so I would try different things, including different foods. I came to realize that she would not starve herself and would eat when she was hungry.

Archer is the same! He started with a SS bowl but now I just have him eat off of a small corelware plate. He just seems to prefer it so much more. Almost like he can pick out the individual food pieces he wants a little better.I also find his beard gets a bit less messy when he eats his way.

Scout has changed his eating habits since Truffles arrived. He will not eat if their food is put down at the same time. We have to start him eating by hand feeding him. He only likes paper plates for some reason. He will push the plate around the kitchen until it spills the food. Then he will take pieces to another area to eat. It drives me crazy because I have to clean the hardwood.

check her teeth and mouth, just to make sure something there's not bothering her. If you use glass just make sure it doesn't contain lead. Pyrex is great.
