Do people assume that your boy hav is a girl?

I've noticed that strangers and friends tend to use female pronouns for our puppy even once they've discovered that he's a boy! Maybe because he is so friendly, cute, and fluffy and they associate those traits with girls. I think it's kind of funny and wonder if many other Havanese and small dog owners, in general, have run into that attitude.

I've noticed that as well.

And my human child was born bald. I thought it was funny how everyone assumed she was a boy until she had a full head of hair!

Yup. The hair on Kodi't head is very long, and he can't see if I don't keep it tied up. Even though I just use plain terry ponttail holders, and I never use "girly" colors, people still assume he's a girl because he has a pont tail. I tell them it's his "Steven Segal look"!

Yes! I tell them he is a pretty boy . It doesn't bother me that everyone assumes he is a girl. But, I do get annoyed at how many people assume he is fat (because of all the hair) or that he is overdue for a haircut. I keep him well groomed but often find myself explaining that they are supposed to look like a mop!

We get the same thing - everyone assumes my boy is a girl. Also the comments about needing a groomer here too!

People assume Whimsy is a girl and I think it has to do with her long cream color hair and the fact that she smells like "cookie dough 'doggy cologne..hahahaha.( she hardly ever wears a bow) She doesn't really see many people outside of friends and family so I don't run into that too much.

Nobody would mistake Whimsey for a boy. People usually think Sheba is a boy though! I wonder if it's because she's mostly a dark color. I think she is very girly. Look at this pose. She's obviously waiting to try on shoes.

Sheba you are so cute. I get the grooming thing a lot. I never take Ollie out without being properly brushed and because he has a full coat and has never been trimmed (except his feet) they think he is supposed to be cut and he hasn't been to the groomers for a long time. Maybe most people clip their long haired dogs and people unfamiliar with long haired breeds think they are supposed to be trimmed down like a Westie or a Wheaton. Years ago I had a poodle we let grow to full coat, it was a lot of work, but I loved the shaggy look.

People always assume one of mine is a boy. She does have a very tomboy look, I have to admit. Actually my son always say that she even walks like a lumberjack, while Twinkle walks daintily on her tippy toes They are both long coated.
