Bunching up potty pad??

We started Oakley on training pads since there was deep, deep snow when we first brought him home. We'll be transitioning to outdoor potty this week. But since day one, he's done the strangest thing... he pees on the pad lying flat, but when he needs to "poo poo", he goes to each corner and bunches up the pad into a small ball under him, then poops on the crumpled, balled-up pad (sometimes hitting the pad, but most of the time just missing by an inch or so, since the pad is balled up so small.)

Is my Oakley "strange"? Ha! Or has anyone else's puppy ever done this?

Well, not exactly, that...but mine likes to drag the pads around the house and RLH. If I put it back she just races out with it again. She might also shred them a little. Strange little creatures!

We had to do away with the potty pad as Javi started shredding and eating the potty pads. Plus he frequently just missed the pads with both pee and poo. Right now, we're just going outside.

He does so well with the pads -- just has to have it bunched up in a ball before he can poop on it. So weird!

He's also dragged it around the house on one occasion, but that hasn't happened since. Yes, such strange little creatures!

Truffles would occasionally shred her wee pads if she got very excited. Are the pads on the floor? It may help to have the wee pad contained in a box. We have two Rascal's now for Truffles. She has never pulled a pad out of the box and shredded it. Plus there are no accidents due to misses. Scout was trained to go outside. I was concerned he might follow Truffles. He will watch her, but has never used the pads.

Well, actually, pulling them out of her litter box (which she never liked or used no matter what I put in it) is even more fun for her. She actually only does it at night when she in a silly mood and wants a reaction out of us. We made the mistake of laughing at her when she did it as a very young pup and now she knows it once was a crowd pleaser and may elicit some type of reaction from her audience. The bottom line is she does use the pads in a location where she can get to them herself whenever she has to. I am trying to transition her to fake grass as she seems to prefer that to a litter box.
