What other dogs have you owned?

Hey guys!

This is my first dog ever, but I used to want a Yorkie, (heard they were yappy) Maltese (not good for my small kids) and Bichon Frise (only had white color).

Just wondered what other dogs have you owned? Or how did they compare to your Havs?

As a child, we had collies. Absolutely wonderful dogs that I was very attached to, but, even as a little girl, I always wanted a small dog. When I had my own family, we got a bichon, followed by a toy poodle. Sheba is actually a little like both of them. She is funny and food-motivated, like our bichon. And she is a velcro dog, like our poodle. I come from a big family where everyone has lots of dogs. At last year's Thanksgiving celebration, there were 33 people and 11 dogs!

As a child, I had a Miniature Poodle, so smart. Then we had a collie mix and a St. Bernard. Then we had a Maltese, even smarter than the Poodle, he would pull out and open his own xmas gifts. Then when I had my own family we had a Bearded Collie. He was the love of my life. The most gentle soul, who loved everyone and would do anything for anyone. I still cry when I think of him. It took me 10 years to get another dog. Now we have Oliver our little Hav and I am so angry with myself that I waited so long. He is definitely the new love of my life. I am Oliver crazy. He has that effect on the whole family, which is amazing considering the men in this family were not little dog people. That has all changed big time.

I had 2 Kuvasz, a female as a puppy, and a male rescue, and a female Doberman as a puppy. Zoe is my first small dog.

My last dog was a cock a poo mix of some kind. Looked like a large Havanese. We got her back in the late 70's when my youngest was in kindergarten. She lived to be about 16 years old..my daughter was almost done with college by then. I waited 12 years before I got another dog..which was Whimsy.

I had a Collie as a kid. Great dog but too much hair, very hard to maintain. Before Havvies, I had a Shih-Tzu. Very sweet but not so smart.

I had a Cocker Spaniel when I was growing up, who was my best friend, as I was an only child. In married life, we have had an Afghan Hound, a Bichon and two Havanese. Our AH was our only big dog, but I am really a small dog person, so we got a Bichon. I liked the breed and its temperament but got tired of white and the staining, so after some research, I found the Havanese with a similar temperament but so many colors.

We also raised Netherlands Dwarf rabbits at a point and had three African Pygmy goats, as well as two barn cats.

When I was a teenager I had a Collie named Shasta. I found her at a shopping center pet shop. She looked so sad in a cage too small for her. My mom had just passed away. Now I know she probably came from Kansas puppy mill. Shasta passed away of heart failure at 8yrs. She was a sweet girl, just like Lassie

Growing up our family had mostly mutts from the local shelter. When I was a teenager it was a Doberman who was very sweet. I was probably 15 years into my marriage before my husband finally said yes to a dog(he never had one). She was a Bichon that we had for 14 1/2 years. Very sweet dog, loved to snuggle and always had a happy looking expression to her face. Devastated me when she died. A year later we got Molly who has brought so much joy to our lives.

Many. My personal dog when I was little was a Rat Terrier. My Father raised English Setters and Beagles for hunting. Since then, and before our Daughter got into Havanese, we had many rescue farm dogs. Pam spent part of her early youth in Alaska, fell in love with Malamutes, and spent her early adult years raising them.

The first job assigned to me, when I was about four or five, was to watch the litters of hunting dogs to make sure that the little ones didn't get pushed aside from nursing.
