Leaving puppy while I'm on a long trip.

A family emergency popped up rather suddenly and I have to go to India for about a week starting tomorrow night. My fiance will be staying back, but his schedule is such that Muthu will be alone for 4.5-5 hours in a row for 3 days a week. We've been trying to leave the house for 2-3 hours everyday so he's used to it, but he's never really been alone longer than that. He is pee pad trained, so I'm not worry about potty access. I am worried that that is too long to leave him alone. I'm also nervous that his anxiety regarding being alone, which he just got over, will be provoked by my being gone for a week =/.

Will he notice my absence? My fiance has left for 3 days before and it wasn't bad, but he's not really the primary caregiver. Would it be advisable to see if I can find a dog walker for the days he will be alone for 5 hours? Any tips or advice? I always figured he'd be a bit older (only 4 months right now) before I had to leave him to go on a trip. My fiance jokes that I'm more anxious about leaving the dog than the dog will be about me being gone.

I think I'd definitely try to find someone to come in and walk a puppy that age rather than leave him alone for that long each day.

I agree. It will make Muthu feel better and also make you feel better.

We ended up having a surprising number of volunteers to puppy sit for 2/3 days. We're getting a walker for the 3rd. I do feel a lot better not having to worry about him being anxious the whole time I'm away.

That's great. People can't resist Muthu, I guess.
