Hormones

A great article http://www.sciencemag.org/content/348/6232/280.full This makes the paper relevant to the question of what domestication really means. It's not surprising that dogs make use of the oxytocin pathway to communicate with us. It also shows how far removed wolves are from our domesticated dogs. I wonder whether dogs that do not gaze as much could be not as social and are viewing their guardians gaze as threatening, which is also quite common in dog behaviour? Great stuff.

Very interesting. My daughter Lizzie has autism and Sheba fights hard to get a gaze from Lizzie's eyes. When she is lying on the sofa next to me, she rolls over on her back and wiggles until I look into her face. She's an oxytocin junkie. Fortunately, so am I!
