A week boarding went well...

We're back from our vacation, the dogs spent a week at our vet's office and did fine. I was nervous and called to check on them every day, they told me they were doing well and were eating, sleeping, and playing. We had a really great time and it was nice being able to get up when I wanted to instead of when the dogs wanted to...but, next time I don't want to leave them behind!!! DH and I missed them so much!!! They both went crazy when we saw them and did RLH for a few hours after we got home. Now they're happily sleeping, so is DH since we got up at 2am to be home to pick them up before noon, and they're settled in at home again.

The whole boarding experience was ok but I don't want to do it again!!! Does anyone else feel the same or am I really the "Crazy Dog Lady" as my family accuses?

Welcome Home Ann. I saw more posts so thought you were probably back. I have been thinking of you and wondering how you were doing with the boarding experience. You survived !!! Scooter and Murphy did too but I bet you are glad to have them back home with you.

Did you have a nice vacation?

Ann- glad to hear it How is Murphy's coat? Do they brush them and bathe them before you pick them up? I am usually always invited to take the pups, my family knows how I am. However some relatives.. it is better to get a hotel

We went to Florida for 2 weeks this winter and were fortunate enough to find a condo that allowed dogs. Our housesitter (errr...dogsitter) works at a school, so I would much rather do our traveling when she is out of school so she is here with them most of the time. I know I have made Jammies worse by never leaving her!
We were supposed to go on a Hawaiin cruise last week, but I have been in the hospital and was not able to go. I'm doing better now.
I really was okay leaving Jammies home with our sitter, although I see no reason why she couldn't go on a ship. I was going to tell the captain that she was my seeing eye dog as she pulled me around the ship! I'm like you though, I'd rather have her with me! They sure are velcro dogs!

Unrelated Debbie, but I was sorry to hear you were in the hospital. But very glad to hear you are doing okay. I hope it is all up hill from here on.

We are vacationing in late September and told dh...."Only 5 days for boarding for Dexter instead of 7 days," and while waiting for September we are doing some half day and full day session boarding to get Dexter use to the boarding routine.

I would rather not board Dexter either. Daughter-in-law is not agreeable at this time for dog visit. Our only alternative is to stay in hotel two days, then what do you do with pup when you visit? I sure would not want to leave Dexter alone in hotel.

Ann, glad to hear the boarding went well and you had a great vacation. It is really hard to leave our little velcro furballs.

Linda, good luck with Dexter's boarding.

Best, Poornima

Ann, in our forty years of marriage we have never boarded any of our dogs! We just don't go anywhere they aren't welcome. Fortunately, most of our family that we visit are dog people, too, and the things we've missed wouldn't have been any fun if I was worrying about them the whole time anyway......lol

So, I guess I'm a "crazy dog lady" too!!

We have an animal sitter that takes care of the Jack Russell, horses, cats, & fish when we go on our family vacation. Smarty (& now Galen) goes with us. There is a very nice Pet Resort not far from us but it is still a boarding kennel (grates, concrete runs, and gravel lots for turn out). One of my Boxers had to stay there because I could not trust him with other people. He did fine.

We use a pet sitter instead of boarding. I like that the dogs and cats are still in their own environment. We brought them on vacation with us before too though. I don't think I'd bring them if we were staying in a hotel, but we brought them to beach houses with us before. The worst part about that is the ride. Cricket throws up every time she rides in the car.
