BJ's trip to Nebraska
Well, this was a big weekend for BJ -- not only did he turn 5 months old earlier in the week, but he also flew with me from So California to Omaha, where my sister and I were giving a bridal shower for my nephew's fiancee. (Most of my family lives around Omaha, and half of the bride-to-be's family also lives around Omaha, so it worked out very well.)
We flew on Southwest Airlines, which just started allowing pets in the cabins on June 1. Everything was going well until we got on the plane in Orange County -- as soon as I put BJ's carrier under the seat, he started barking and barking and BARKING!! I was sure we were going to be escorted off the plane, but he suddenly gave one last woof and then slept the entire rest of the way. Whew!
A few weeks ago, I got the lightweight Celltei carrier that Amanda, Kathy and others recommended (I love it) and I sneaked that on as my "personal item" because I didn't want to have to lug the black airline-approved carrier all over Omaha. I was so glad I had it. My sister and I ran around Omaha all day on Friday picking up things for the shower and no one paid any attention to him in his little carrier -- well, until we stopped at Panera Bread for lunch. BJ managed to work the zipper opening far enough that all of sudden he was able to pop his head out and say "woof" to everyone there.
I set up a pen for him at my sister's house during the shower, where he could observe but be out of main action. He was a perfect gentleman during the shower. Several people brought their children, and they looooved him, of course. We just got back today, and he was an absolute angel on both flights -- slept all the way. Also, he didn't have a single accident during the entire weekend while we were at my sister's house (which was good, since she's not a dog lover). What a good boy!
Some photos of our adventure are below -- the last one is of BJ sacked out shortly after we got back home to California, surrounded by Bird and Snoopy, his two favorite toys. Jane
P.S. One photo is of the bride-to-be -- look at how the ironing board behind her is wrapped. I thought that was such a cute idea.
