Mistaken for a Shih Tzu?

I'm wondering if you find when you meet new people that they think your Hav is a Shih Tzu? I keep getting asked when I run into people that don't know us. I'm really not sure what the exact visual differences are between Havs and Shih Tzus. Seems to me the Shih Tzu has more of a pugged face.

Not very often, but when someone DOES make the mistake, I point out that Havanese "have a nose".

Truffles and I were recently in the waiting area of our pet hospital and a nice woman came over and asked if she was a Shih Tzu. I said no that she was a Havanese and they have a muzzle and almond eyes. She quickly apologized and said that had never seen a Havanese. I have been mistaken several times asking if a dog was Havanese and it wasn't.

I've had a couple of people ask, then reply "Havanese... that is a mix between a Pekinese and... what?"

That happened to me A LOT when Kodi was a puppy, but there are so many of them around now, 6 years later, that most people seem to at least "know someone who has one", even if they aren't personally familiar with the breed.

Not sure that's a good thing...

I know, and feel the same concern about that, Karen.

I've been asked whether Daisy is a "Shihpoo"?? I just smile and say she's Havanese. Then They ask, "A Hava-what?" I don't know about them but a Havanese sounds more like a real dog than a Shihpoo. If I didn't know any better I'd look down and say, "She pooped?".
