Havanese in Dallas for adoption

I just received an email from the shelter manager at a well known and highly respected local no-kill animal shelter. They are having a happy hour event tomorrow at local restaurant and I’ll be taking one of their dogs over there (to hopefully get adopted!). I just went to their website and saw the cutest dog that is listed as Havanese. His name is “Willie” (no doubt a Texas dog)….I doubt he’s 100%, but he’s a cutie. Here’s a link to his profile. If anyone is in the Dallas area tomorrow and wants to go to the event, I’ve also included the details.

Here’s the link to Willie…..

Event details…
Meetup Description
Operation Kindness was founded in 1976 and is the oldest and largest no-kill shelter in North Texas. They are a nonprofit animal welfare organization that cares for homeless or unwanted cats and dogs in a no-kill environment. They never euthanize an animal to make room for another. They care for all the animals we take in until they are adopted.
They have saved more than 55,000 animals since their inception. They care for an average of 200-250 animals on a day-to-day basis, with another 60-80 animals in foster homes. More than 2,800 dogs and cats are adopted from Operation Kindness each year.
Black Finn Restaurant & Saloon is the destination for this event. They have invited us with open arms, complimentary appetizers and 1/2 priced drinks until 9pm for those attending our event!
Come join many at An Event for a Paws and give Operation Kindness a hand.
A $10 suggested donation will be collected at a check-in table at the restaurant. Happy Hour will be from 6-9pm.
You may also instead bring items that are much needed for Operation Kindness:
FOR CATS:
little hairy mice
toys with feathers
toys that dangle (interaction)
balls w/noisey middles

FOR DOGS: (they do already have a lot of plastic toys)

sm/med/lrg kongs

FOOD:
** canned chicken **
dog or cat dry food only (science diet, IAMS or better quality)

Let us know how he makes out. I hope he gets to have a wonderful life with a loving family and finally has stability in his life.

Hi Christie!

How did it go at Black Finn. Operation Kindness is where I got Mimi from, but I was unable to go to this event?

We need to get together again soon... I always want to go to dog related events but need a buddy to go with...

The event went well. I didn't get to take the Havanese with me, but I did take 2 teeny tiny dogs. One was a miniature schnauzer and the other was a teacup poodle. They were both from puppy mills and were absolutely terrified throughout the event. But the good news is that they were a hit! They were constantly being passed from person to person and they did great. I've got to be honest with you, I had the best intentions volunteering for this group, but I had to hold back the tears when I got there to pick them up and then again when I had to put them in their cages at the end of the night and leave them. I dont' know if I'm strong enough to do this type of thing. I only live about 2 miles from the shelter and was planning on going over there a few times a week to walk the dogs, but it absolutely breaks my heart. I know the babies need help, so I may focus my efforts on fundraising for them.

Has anyone volunteered in a situation like this? Does it get easier with time?

Hi you wonderful Dallas ladies!

I have a friend from my breeders Yahoo list that is moving to the Dallas area for 3 years from Denver. She is looking for recommendations for vets, good places to get dog food, etc.

If anyone would be willing to email her, would you please send me a PM and let me know.

She is moving in Sept.

Thanks!
Beverly
