I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum room, but I wanted to share with those that are not on the Facebook pages. Max our beloved family member went to sleep last night.
RIP Max 6-22-15
Goodbye Max, our little guy who brought us eight plus years of great joy and comfort. You will be missed and you will not be forgotten by your family and friends.
Max came into our lives while I (Rick) was in the hospital recovering from back surgery. Two attorney/friends came to visit me in the hospital one evening and they brought along this little 8 week old puppy. Paula and I have never owned a dog since weíve been married (I grew up with dogs most all of my childhood). The attorney asked me if I would like this little black bundle of love....Iím on morphine so I say...yeah, cool, but I better call Paula. Paula says.....stop it, youíre on morphine, of course we are not getting a dog.
A couple of days later Iím now home sitting in my chair recuperating when there is a knock at the door, Iím downstairs from the door so Paula answers the door and thatís all I hear. Then a few minutes go buy and Paula brings down Max....our new puppy. Paula had arranged to get the dog without me knowing. Little did Paula realize what raising a dog would involve....potty training...really!!!!
Max has had his ups and downs, while I was brushing him (at age 4) I noticed a lump on his neck/throat area, so we took him to the vet to have checked out. The lump turned out to be cancer and we had it removed. All was well for about 9 months when I felt a new lump in the same area. We took him to the vet, they did a biopsy and discovered that the cancer was back and more invasive this time. Back to surgery for thyroid to be removed and a prognosis of 6-9 months to live. Well that was 4 years ago, and he was a great patient and recovered quickly....he subsequently blew out his aclís but like the trooper he is, he healed well and we gave him therapy opting not for surgery because of his cancer prognosis.
About 18 months ago we noticed that Max was rapidly losing weight, back to the vet again and after an exam and ultrasound it was discovered that he had several tumors in his liver...and they were fairly fast growing. New prognosis, 2-6 months.
He is such a good boy, he fought it hard and he fought it long.....the vet is simply amazed that Max has been able to live fairly comfortably for so long...and so are we. Heís like our miracle dog......I donít know how Bessie (our other Hav) is going to handle not being your shadow for 7 plus years, I know she will miss you too.
Miss you Max, we love you.
