we're not eating again! is it the food?

i switched django to california natural about a month ago, the chicken kibble. it seems to be either too hard to chew or too dense in nutrients and he isn't eating. we have okay days and not so good days. he ususally eats 1/4 cup 2x a day, now he's down to 1/4 once a day. i thought about switching to the lamb kibble, it's small bites. i know the food has less fillers so they don't eat as much but i dont know if that's it or he doesnt like the food.

Have you tried canned? I know he has some health issues so not sure what you can use but my dogs love it. They also love the fish oil that I add in the mornings.

Try grounding up the food in the blender, then adding a bit of water to make it 'soft' food- whenever I do this, mine gobble it up!
That way they are getting the benifits of the kibble still- but it's easier to eat-

That's a good idea Katie. Some dogs (and people) get tired of chewing and just push the food away.

he still plays, poops, drinks, etc. i thought about switching to the smaller kibble of lamb but i hate the thought of transitioning him to another food even though it's the same line. more dread for him than me.

i'll try crushing the kibble. i gave him canned food yesterday, didn't think of it until evening and he ate it all up. poor guy must have been starving. he ate too fast and too much so we had to give him a little pepto.

i don't know why but he was up all night last night, very restless, don't know if the canned food bothered him but it was not a good night. i fed him around 6:00 yesterday night so i thought food has time to processs but something was up with the little guy.

back to kibble today. lamb and rice arrives at the shop tomorrow so i will pick up a bag and start that, i think that might be the best solution.

poor Django. Last night he may of just had energy from actually eating. I remember when Jasper was finicky the days he ate he was like a puppy...the days he didn't he was very reserved.

How is Django doing with his Addisons? I forget, can he do raw? I not had a finicky eater since I started feeding the NV medallions raw. And they both are doing terrific on it.

I wouldn't bother trying a slow switch to the lamb if he likes it. worst that could happen is a little loose biz. Jasper did wonderfully in his finicky phase on Cal Nat lamb and rice. let us know how it goes.

ps. Django's picture in your avatar always makes me smile.

don't want to introduce the raw, trying to keep things simple as possible. his addisons seems to be in check but it's so hard to tell. he has great high energy days and days where he's dragging. i think the pancreatitis threw him for a big one and i think he will just never be like he use to be, which is okay as long as he's in a good place.

i crushed his kibble today and added a spoonful of canned, ate it all up, will feed again later today. i'll slowly transition to the lamb starting tomorrow.
