Take the dog or leave him home?

Here's a question - one my husband and I are asking ourselves this morning!

It is a very hot day - going up to 91. We're invited to a friends cabin in the woods - they have no air conditioning. We're supposed to stay for about 4 hours. Should I take Henry (who really doesn't love the heat) and let him have the fun of being with us and in a new environment for a few hours or should I leave him to nap nice and comfortably by himself in our cool air conditioned house? What would you guys do?

I tend towards thinking that experiencing new things and environments is good for our dogs. Heat is miserable, but still...

Here is Tucker at a swimming pool while we had a visit with my grandkids, down in hot CA last week.

I know Kodi and Pixel would prefer staying home, if those were the choices!

I agree COMPLETELY that experiencing new things and environments is VERY important. I guess the question is, how often can you orchestrate that without having to deal with extreme heat? In our case, the number of days that are that hot are few. (like today) Today, Kodi will stay home and enjoy the AC here. Pixel will go to our puppy play group, but that's in an air conditioned house too! Neither would appreciate me shlepping them to a cabin in the woods at 90F. (I can't say I'd be all that happy about it either, though I'd be polite and go anyway! )

Scout and Truffles avoid heat. Scout won't even get out of the car at the park if it is hot.

Well, Tucker had a blast, really, other than suffering the heat, because obviously, all those people and kids came out to the pool in order to spend time with HIM. Haha!

(And, he'd rather be with people any ol' day, when his only other option is to stay alone elsewhere.)

Yeah, I think it really has to be a dog-by-dog decision!

I personally think that my dogs can go wherever I go. With that said I'd never spend 4 hours outside in 91 degree temps. Therefore, neither would I subject my dogs to that. LOL

I choose to go with mi Momi and Popi wherever they go and whatever the weather. I have been in 90F+ temperature many times and no problema for mi, even playing RLH......but Momi and Popi always take mi Water Rover and a small ice chest so they can keep mi hydrated.

besos, Ricky Ricardo
