Pain meds...upset stomach

Wicket's GI Tract did NOT agree with the pain meds that were given by the Emergency Vet and we had a messy night/day. Thank goodness for puppy pads! Upon visiting our regular Vet, this was discussed and he suggested taking him off the pain meds. He gave him some probiotics to take however his system is still off and continues to have the runs. Sometimes he is able to alert us and we are able to get him outside, other times it comes on too quickly. I've looked through the forum and tried pumpkin and ground turkey. How long should I expect this to take before his system becomes regular again? What other suggestions would you like to offer? His pain seems to be under control, he is just off with his GI tract.

I suggest you call your regular vet's office and ask what he should be eating while his GI tract is off, how much, and how often. Tell them the problem is continuing and ask when you should be concerned and see the vet again.

When Molly has had GI upset we have used boiled chicken or ground beef with rice. The probiotics also help. A couple times the vet prescribed Metronidizole when the diet alone didn't work. One time I had to stop the bland diet and put Molly back on her regular kibble while she still had soft/liquid stools. Just like when you switch dog foods, sometimes introducing a new food, even a bland one, is enough to further upset the GI tract. It could take a week or more to fully settle down. Good luck and hugs for Wicket.
